  • Yes I read the Proffesors tuning!

    /rant pm

I can not for the life of me get my snare to stop ringing or sounding like a tin can mated with a cowbell! Also no matter what I do I can not get sympathetic ring nosie from (any tom depending on the hour of tuning ) to stop! ( It is always one after I fix the other!!!!!)

I know more hard work! Im just venting, but Damn! My old Acrolite sounds killer but my snare that came with my 20th ani Export is killing me!

It has the stock reso and a Evans Genrea coated on it and the rest of the toms have Hydraluics except the base that has a EMAD on it! all resos again are stock!

    So could it be....

My tuning capabilites ( Probably )
    The Reso's
The Snare it self ( Does it need a damper? )

Music style and sound I like is dry sharp and very little reso.
    ( Blues/classic rock and Jazz! )

Or should I scrap the whle thing and start over with totaly new heads or just go get drunk and put headphones on!

I'd say, put an ambassador reso on , a evans hd dry snare headon it (has muffling ring ) and crank it! if it rings to much for your taste, put a moongel on! that sucka will sound awesome with that combo

Sounds like a great combo! Thanks a bunch

Any comments on the Hrdro's? Are they so deep that I am always going to get Symp Noise?
And should I leave the stock resos on change them too?

well symp vibration will always happen when you hit the toms, its reallu supposed to, just try and get used to it and as for your snare ringin you might wanna try getting a 2 ply batter such as a remo emperor or if your willing to sacrifice sensitivity for a little deader so und try a emperor x and put a ambassador snare side on the reso

yep, a 2 ply batter is probably what you're looking for. Be sure to put some moongel on it for a damper, it should sound killer. I hate it when I tune up my snare and then have to retune it because the sympathetic vibrations are horrible.

Also, don't forget you are the only one that can really hear a lot of that buzz. 10 - 15 feet away from the kit, people wont be able to hear the buzzing.. To help with the buzz, put a piece of tissue or tp between the snare wires and the bottom head. It might kill to much snare for you, but it is something for you to try. You might end up enjoying the change.

I will also recommend Remo Coated Powerstroke 3 head w/ dot. Also, Aquarian Coated Studio-X w/dot. Both of these heads sound real good cranked up tight.

And last but not least, Duct tape or a bandade are cheap muffle options.. 8-)

                Good luck
