    I have the same drum!

    For best sound:

    Buy some moongel
    Buy a NEW emperor
    Crank the head
    Apply moongel
    PLAY!

fantastic drum, if I can add any more advice, invest in earplugs! Those things are mighty loud.

haha thanks for the help guys.
i was definately hoping to get a loud drum, my previous snare (pearl exr) had a very dead sound, no matter what i did to try and fix it nothing would help.
but i got quite the deal on this drum, i think they retail at like 280 from GC.
so i'm quite happy so far.
dont have the drum yet though :[

If you didn't like the dead sound your EXR had then don't try a cranked Emperor with moongel of all things. Slap an Ambassador or a CS on it, tune it up until you find the sweet spot and let it sing.

I was actually referring to what you could put on the Musashi.

Frankly, where Oak snares are a bit on the dry side as it is I wouldn't stick an Emperor with some moongel on but that's me. I prefer single ply on my snares with no muffling. I do own the 13" Musashi though, and with an Ambassador or CS on it it's got great crack to the sound while retaining some of the body that comes with being reasonably deep. It has a great snares off sound to.
