  • seeking information on snare

I picked up this used snare recently

The badge says DW made in Mexico

I think the depth is 4 1/2 and it's a 14 inch on the diameter

It's black on the exterior and the interior has the
the look of aluminum but the thing is, this thing
feels way too heavy to me to be aluminum.

    10 lugs.

Can anyone shed some more light on this snares history for me

I would think that it is a steel shell. I know that DW has made certain shells in their Pacific Mexican factory for their snare drum line. Check out the inside for a shell date stamp or sticker, it might have more info.

It isn't steel, I tried a magnet up against it and it won't stick

A little bit off of topic, but something I've always wondered. What's with the "DW" snares that have that type of badge in the picture above. Are they knockoffs, or a "lower model" of DW, or another drum company with the copyright of " drum workshop", and not "DW". thanks.

the drums that DW makes in mexico is lower quality, and less expensive. Obviously it isnt as custom (talking about finishes of course) as the classic Collectors series we all know.

If it's heavy and a magnet doesn't stick, I'd bet it is brass. This line of DWs is a lower line than the Collectors series. Be careful with the throwoff, there are flush Allen screws that holds the pivot point in place. They'll come loose over time and you'll go to let the snares loose and they won't come back on. Learned that the hard way...
