  • My 7x14 PDP Acrylic Snare

I just took these pics a few hours ago. I switched up the the stock rims with my Black rims from my Gretsch Catilina Snare. So now it has a black/chrome/black look which I thiunk is awesome and the sound is perfect for what I play.

(In the first pic It looks like it has a big scratch on it....It was actually just dust I swpiped off after. )

You really wouldn't want to play this snare?

        It sounds absoultely perfect.

Depends on your definition of perfect. I honestly haven't played one of those PDP acrylic's because:

          Its PDP.
They don't look good to me.
I already have an acrylic Pork Pie 13x7 amber lite.

I'm sure it sounds fine with a good tune, and heads though. What's funny is I'm more than likely shooting myself in the foot because PDP, Pork Pie, and every other custom drum company probably all gets their acrylic shells from the same place. I just mostly can't get around PDP's "artwork" on the shell. It just looks cheap to me.. Sorry. But congrats on finding a snare that you consider to have that "perfect sound". A lot of people search for a really long time to find it.

Well the Shell is an RCI Acryllic shell, Like almost all custom companies use. And I do consider it my perfect sound because it works with everything I play.I own 6 snares and this is my main workhorse for that reason. But That does not stop me from buying other snares as well, I've had this since Febuary.

Also like The Pearl VP snare, Which I also have and love, looks should have absolutely nothing to do with buying a snare. It should have to do with the sound. Unless your playing in a very small room or have a video camera that shows your snare, not many people are going to look at it. Pretty much you and anyone associated with you musically.

I understand that you already have a Amber Lite, which is awesome, but trying to knock a snare on only looks and never hearing the snare itself is very .

And DevonS.....I realize now what You meant by that.

Yip that's a quality RCI shell right thar.

Personally I think it's the most understated snare of all the PDP acrylic models. The MudFlap girls are only repeated 4 times and relatively small in comparison to the rest of the shell.

Still, it's clear you don't care about looks since you have a VP Sig

I think if you got those lugs powdercoated black it would really set it off! + black nylon washers..
Or you could find a more attractive lug that fits those hole specs from drummaker or some place, I think that's what I'm gonna do.

If I can get my hands on one, I'm gonna get black chrome hoops and replace the lugs.

                Shot for the pics dude!!

Thanks man. Glad I could help out.

I really think it is underrated as well. I can't even find the other models on selves anymore but I always see this one. I got it on sale for $170 brand new. There's no way I could pass that up.

I thought about powdercoating the lugs, but it really compliments by Gretsch snare now (chrome rims, Black Lugs). I think it looks cool. It's like they are matching snares. If I get some extra money that dosen't go into my other drum funds I might just do that.

And Like I said looks mean nothing, especially on a snare. I mean when I listen to an album, I pay more attention to the sound of the drums and I don't think at all about what color they are. If color in any way affected sound, then I'd probably care, but other then that, I don't care at all.
