    Best I have owned...

Mine has to be my 6.5x14 Dunnett Stainless Steel shell snare. It does everything. I have used it in the studio on everything and I use it live sometimes too. The shell is fine but my hoops are getting rusty and will need to be replaced soon. I added the decals to make it sexy. Sorry the pics aren't better but I have crap for natural light today as I am in Florida and it is raining. I also have several Pearl Free Floaters which are great. My fav snare all time? Ludwig steel shell Supra 5x14. It's just a great drum. Everyone copies it for a reason. I also have a Mapex Deep forrest Cherry shell snare that sounds incredible. I will update my inventory and take pics so I can share with you drum geeks like me. Always a gear head.

Dude! It is only a decal and they do come off. I have gotten a lot of compliments on this drum for both its sound and its appearance. It is my rock and roll drum and rock and roll isn't supposed to be stuffy and conservative. Have you ever seen Keith Moon's Pictures of Lily drum-set? That was the inspiration. I like Olivia DeBernardinis and I like snare drums. Originally when I got this drum from Ron Dunnett back in 2000 I had intended to have a design sandblasted on the shell but I went with basic black instead. The black got boring and I use this drum a lot so I decided to decorate it. I am never going to sell it. Yay me.

After last night, I have to say it is the 6.5 x 14" Pearl Reference Steel Model. I have been playing for more than 20 years and I've never heard a snare sound that good. Best drum investment I've ever made.

my favorite is the Sonor Artist 9 ply light maple in cottonwood finish. Always in tune, very responsive, incredible sounding snare and the finish is off the hook.

                  I love everyone's posts--great drums everywhere.

Thanks a lot dude, it really does sound awesome. I love playing it and looking at it. I still can't get over the finish. I would love if I could get my whole kit in that finish, but I refuse to buy DW (the one company that has it.). I hate that wet tom sound that they have. At least to my ears they don't sound good, but DW does have great finishes.

You know, it's interesting that the humble little Acrolite shows up time and again on these kinds of threads. For metal snares, it's just about the best thing I have ever played. My bronze Sensitone Elite comes close, but it doesn't have the versatility of the Acrolite.

It just goes to show you that great sound does not necessarily mean that you have to spend a lot of $$$.
