I thought I'd share my little project I did with my Premier Heavy Rock Nine Snare...its a 9x14 brass shell with inner birch shell and integral felt strips...it also has the parallel throw-off and solid die-cast hoops..its a monster of a snare drum...those of you who have had the chance to play or hear one know what I'm talkin about...
When I acquired the drum it was in poor shape..the chrome was pealing off the hoops, the lacquer was worn through and the bare brass was discoloring... the strainer assembly was so loose it was practically falling off....well, this thing deserved to be brought back to its former glory...and so started the restoration...
I disassembled the drum as much as possible...the inner birch shell cannot be removed because the bearing edges are rolled over it...I then proceeded to glassbead the outer brass shell until it was taken down to bare brass...when done it has a light frosted appearance...I then clear lacquered it and reassembled....the hoops I sent out to be rechromed and they came back beautiful!!!...I finished it off with Evans heads...Genera HD over Hazy 300...pics to follow... enjoy!
