I've always wanted to make my own snare drum and I've finally done it! Because I live in Australia, shells and parts aren't that easy to get so I went to drumfoundry.com. I was surprised how quickly it took to make. Overall it took about 5 days. Of course most of that time was waiting for the polyurethane to dry.
Its a 10 ply maple Keller shell, 14"x5.5". I'll admit its not the greatest looking snare. But I wanted to do something simple for my first one. And it turned out exactly how I planned. So I'm pleased with that.
Also I'd admit the sound is kind of average at the moment =/ I still haven't tuned it 100% though. But I have a Pearl Forum at the moment and it sounds way better than that snare. Hehe.
Ok enough waffle. Here's some pics. Not really the best quality pics =/
