I've been wanting to complete my shell bank for quite some time. I put it off for a bit when I came across this Session Studio Select kit in Black Halo Glitter with satin hardware already installed for only $1,099(!) from Drum center of Portsmouth. The shells were all in great shape but the satin was not, and whoever owned this kit before me had absolutely no clue how to install the lugs properly. They were so tight that every lug left an indent on the shell and some of the gaskets were upside down and even backwards. Needless to say, the over tightening of the lug screws destroyed a bunch of the gaskets, so I had to wait for new ones to arrive so I could finish putting everything back together.
Anyway, gaskets acquired, cleaning and assembly finished, on to the next part of the journey. I won't get into the whole beginning of this decision to put a shell bank together with the Crimson Burst kit, but I will say the difficulty in finding genuine Pearl hardware in satin finish led me to go back to chrome hardware for my kit(s). I've always wanted options with my drums when setting up. I have so many cymbals (what happened to the List Your Cymbals thread?) I can set up whatever I want but what if I want to play a 24" kick? I could bust out the old Gretsch kit but then I don't have a matching tom. I had my Session Studio Classic with the satin hardware and a 20" kick but no 10" tom. I had my vintage DLX kit but only with the 22" kick. After the Black Halo kit was finished a few weeks ago I finally ordered the Session Studio Select Vintage Crimson Burst 24" shell pack. I only needed the 24" kick and the 18" floor but DCP hooked me up with 20% off which made the $1,270 price tag way less expensive than purchasing them individually. Hopefully I will be able to sell the 13" tom and extra 16" floor tom and make some of my money back.
Here is a family photo of all the drums together:
8x7, 10x7, and 12x8 toms. 14x14, 16x16, and 18x16 floor toms. 20x14, 22x16, and 24x14 kick drums. 14x8 snare.
All of the drums have Fat Tone hoops and stainless steel tension rods. The 8" and 10" toms have aluminum Optimounts. The 12" will be in a snare stand.
Then some pics of their current set up.
24" kick, 12" tom, 16" and 18" floors, 14"x6.5" LE BOB snare.
(Note, I do have the Fat Tone hoops and SS tension rods for the 18" floor but I'm waiting on my new heads before the swap.)
