Man I am so happy with the results of the final product! DFD came through big time with just what I needed to see this project through fruition! I outfitted "Mini Teal" with two black powder coated metal hoops, a PS3 coated kick batter and 2 ply DFD black reso head. As mentioned before, I cannibalized my Tama kick for the legs and die cast claws and T rods. I was extremely fortunate that there was enough play in the lug nuts and claws to allow the geometry to work without lug spacers. Even with the outward splay, I have no binding at all while tuning and all is well. I'm running this bad boy wide open with no muffling and it sounds phenomenal! I have never owned an 18" kick and I'm so happy I was able to add this to the arsenal. I could easily see myself gigging with this drum as my main kick. I'm a heavy hitter and I use a wooden beater with my Tama IC kick pedal so no problems in the volume dept. LOL! I'm on vacay next week so I'm going to try to get the whole kit over to my buddy's home studio and get these drums recorded. I can't WAIT to see what this little dynamo can do!
