So I've got this session kit with some pretty small drums. It's got 8 inch, 10 inch, and 13 inch toms and no floor tom as well as an 18 inch kick. I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with this kit. What kind of heads should I put on it? What styles of music should I learn on it? What kind of cymbals should I put with it? I have an A Custom city pack on it right now as well as a 13x3 inch Ludwig maple piccolo. I'm open to anything. Thanks guys.

Welcome Dylan,
My sessions came with Remo single ply clears top and bottom, would keep single ply clears on the Reso head and could try single or double ply coated heads. The Evans UV1s are very flexible heads and well worth a try, albeit expensive.
A Custom cymbals sound good, I have a few of them, I like bright cymbals :-)
As for style of music, whatever floats your boat.
Where are you based? And photos please...Pearl Prestige Session Select SRX 1998 in black mist

I've measured the toms and they are actually 10, 12, and 13 inches. I just got a coated ambassador for the kick drum and I'm thinking about getting a 13x5 modern utility snare. Here are some pictures:
The wraps are also starting to fall off of the toms so I'm thinking about either buying drum wraps or wrapping them in vinyl as my grandfather owns a sign company. As for where I'm based, I'm from Midland, Texas. I was given the drum set used btw.Last edited by dylan_floyd_; 05-24-2019, 04:44 PM.

Hello and Welcome!
It looks like you already have a bit of a "Frankenkit" so if you're not overly concerned with the models not matching, you should be able to find a used Sessions (or Masters) series 16" inch floor tom in black. Or, if you plan to rewrap the kit, then it won't really matter what color drum you find.
Best as I can tell, the 12" and 13" toms are older than the 10" tom and the kick, as they have the older style "coffin lugs" on them (likely from early/mid 80s MX series). The kick and 10" tom have the newer style session lugs, but their badges don't match each other. Perhaps the 18" kick was some sort of custom order as that seems like an odd size for the sessions series (are you sure it's not 20"?). Considering the drums were a gift, I'd just clean 'em up, tune 'em up and and play 'em. If you want to hunt down a larger kick and a floor tom, it shouldn't be overly difficult.
If you have some free time and want to try to figure out exactly what you have, this site: catweb.tgtel.com has a collection of older pearl brochures and catalogues in .pdf format. I have no affiliation with the site, I just use it for reference material. Probably start around 1984/85 for the older toms and work your way up from there. Finally, there are a couple of members on the site who are extremely knowledgeable in identifying older Pearl pieces by badges and hardware ( BadAstronaut and 3PearlKits ). You could try shooting them a PM and ask for help. I don't know how often they frequent this sub-category.
Good Luck and keep us posted.

Thank you! I didn’t even realize the drums were different. It doesn’t matter too much to me as long as they look similar and sound good. I might look into a floor tom if I decide the 13 inch just isn’t the right sound. The kick drum is definitely 18 inches but the serial number is completely different from the 10 inch tom so it must have been something like a custom order. I’ll probably put some coated ambassadors on the toms and buy a 13x5 modern utility snare to go with it and use the kit as a smaller kit for lighter styles of music. I’ll definitely just keep the A city pack with it also. Thanks again
