These are my new drums. I bought them because after playing on a four piece kit for as long as l have been playing, l wanted to add another tom or two.

I also added an 8” splash, 16” Zildjian Z Custom med crash, and a double pedal. This is probably the fifth or sixth double pedal l have owned in my drum life. I always have a certain optimism when l buy One, but l have neverfelt that l could play one well enough to use it. Once again l am chock full-0-0ptimism, but my approach is a little different this time around.

This is my practice kit. It lives in my bands jam space so it is not immediately accessible. What l do with these drums in this configuration is just beat the crap out of them. I am not saying that l abuse them, but l go as hard as l can for as long as l can. I work on technique rather than musicality, my thinking is that if l can play a steady beat with power, control, and prper dynamics, the musicality should come.

    Specs are as follows

    22x16” ,10x7”, 12x8”, 14x14”, 16x14”

Great looking kit. As far as double bass goes, it's not something that should be inserted or used in every song unless you're playing metal or another style of heavy music. I would start with building fills and practicing stuff in the vein of Pantera and Slayer to build your chops. Getting comfortable is key. I used a double kick the first few years I played drums and felt like my single kick chops were lacking so I sold my double and just bought one again in late 2017. It took a minute to get reacquainted but my chops are better than ever now. Just takes time and patience. You're not gonna be Dave Lombardo right off the bat, but double bass chops can be very useful and very fun. Good luck!

      Thanks Mitch.

Taste and ability will determine if and or when l might add the double to my gig rig. It was more from curiosity that l wanted to add yet another double pedal to my kit. For the last four years I have been riding my bicycle as much and often as weather and conditions allow. l was hoping that this conditioning would help with my fugga duggery. So far l am pretty optimistic, but time will tell.

I am enjoying having a few extra objects to try and hit, but it will be a while before l am comfortable enough to use it in public.

I have had at least 4 double pedals in the past and to be honest I just prefer a single . Nothing wrong with experimenting though.

Hmmm...I've no insider knowledge so this is pure speculation.

Configurations with 24" bass drums aren't selling that well, thus the price reduction.
                  Pre-holiday/black Friday deal.
Maybe something "new and improved" is going to be released at NAMM in Jan 2020 and they are clearing aging inventory.

                  Again, this is just speculative.

Well the SSC have already been replaced by the Session Studio Selects not too long ago so I don't see that happening.

Wow, I totally missed that transition. Since I only buy used stuff that is almost as old as me, I guess I'm not up on the newer lines. I guess in a year or two they'll add the Prestige tag to them?

For $600 I'd consider selling all my kits and buy 2 of these brand new and building a double bass kit. Shame there's not two configurations to choose from.

If they offered a 14" floor tom and 10" 12" toms and a 16" FT with 12"&13" toms. That would be awesome.

This is the finish of my kit. Unfortunately it hasn't been out of it's cases in 3 years. It's a big old rock kit - It has a 13,14, 15, and 16" rack toms, an 18" floor tom a 22" bass (I will have to double check those dimensions). Unfortunately it has a Morgan Rose signature series 14" steel snare instead of the original. It's just too damn big for anywhere and now that I'm getting older (OK - I am older) It's just too much. These are the Session Studio 6 ply birch silver badge drums. I believe these were the first series of the Session Studio (Pearl - correct me if I'm wrong please). I've never seen another it the natural blue double fade (light in the middle with the grain showing through but darker to both the top and bottom). I've only seen ones in any photos or factory brochures have faded from light to dark from top to bottom - not dark on both edges.

The STS925XSP/C shell pack consists of:
                              22x16 | 10x7 | 12x8 | 16x16F | Free 14x14F (option)

Then all you'd have to buy is a 13x9 and 22x16
