  • 20 year old Prestige Session Select (SRX) in Carbon Mist

    Hi All,

First time poster, thought I'd introduce my 20 year old kit (reckon I bought it in 1998).

Prestige Session Select in Carbon mist, bought the Fusion kit, added 8, 10 and 18 toms and also swapped out the snare for a Masters Custom in the same colour. I've got back into drumming within the past year having had a very long break, its setup in my man cave with Silent Stroke Heads and the full complement of Zildjian L80 low volume cymbals. Have ordered mounts and legs for the 16" tom and may move to Optimounts for the other 4 toms in due course. I understand these kits are quite sought after?

    Drums are:
    8 x 7
    10 x 9
    12 x 9
    14 x 12
    16 x 13
    18 x 15
    Bass - 20 x 16
    Snare is I think 14 x 5.5

I also have a set of Zildjian cymbals which from memory are:
    21" ride
    14" medium crash
    17" paper thin crash
    14" New Beat HI Hat
    10" splash
and a couple of non Zildjian chinas

Nice kit. I also have a set of these in Teal Blue and I added a Masters MRX snare drum in the same color. Not sure exactly how sought after these kits are but it’s nice to see a 20 year old kit that’s taken care of. I did put Optimounts on the toms for better support.

I was considering one of these kits in the same finish a few years back. Double bass set up but ultimately went another direction. Very lovely though. Cheers!

Way back in the day, I sold my Pearl Export wanting to upgrade, and it was between a Mapex Mars Pro and a Pearl SRX. I went with the Pearl and I have to tell you, I miss that kit. It was Wine Red and sounded just beautiful.

I thought about carbon mist when I bought my SRX; but ultimately I went with Topaz Mist.

              Still my primary gigging kit.

Is that a 2001-2004 kit? Later than mine then. These kits really do have a lurverly finish.

Love this! Absolutely gorgeous finish too.
I had a teal mist Prestige Session Select (10/12/14/20) as my main kit for a few years, absolutely loved it - the kick in particular was killer.

Looks like that would be Black Mist #122. Fantastic drums and that kit was well taken care of. That's a great series and vintage to own.

I had a Wine Red PSS kit for about 15 that was could hang with the best of them in tone, punch and low end! Amazing sounding drums. Anyone looking for a great sounding kit for not too much coin should find one of these.

Thanks all, I remember at the time thinking its as close to Masters as I could get without spending silly money. It was a treat to myself all those years ago and I don't regret the choice for a moment. My previous kits was a Premier Soundwave in black gloss, 12-13-16 toms to which I added 8" and 10" concert toms (no reso).

You're right on the colour looking at the brochure, I thought it was carbon mist but black mist is what it is.

If I get into regular playing with a band (perhaps a brass band), I'll be needing a kit for rehearsals which I can throw about, won't use this but probably get an old export.

I'm picking up a set of LB-40 brackets and LG-40 legs for the 16" tom on Saturday, may well get optimounts for the other 4 toms in due course, thinking the aluminium ones.
