Thanks for the feedback! I think I will pick them up tomorrow!

Also does anyone know what color they are? I would like to add a 16x16 in floor tom, but i'm guessing that would be hard to find.

      Also are these the SRX?

I'm not sure of the color, but it looks like some sort of a walnut stain. They are not SRX's, as that is what I have. Your's are a bit older than that, but what series I'm not sure. And you probably will have quite a time finding a matching floor tom, but that finish would be pretty easy to match, so you could possibly build one with a good keller shell.

Hm so they don't have mahogany?

Keller does make mahogony shells, but they are a bit more expensive than the maple. I think they also have maple reinforcement rings, too. If you want a matching Pearl FT, ebay will be your best bet, but you may have to just keep checking everyday until somebody lists one.

Oh I was looking for that answer too, But i meant that the kit he wants to sell to me, does it have a mahogany and maple combination? Sorry I should have been more specific.

They are worth it. Looks like Walnut Burnish to me. Just a stain color, not the wood. The burnish finishes are between a satin and flat finish, similar in looks to the DW waxed finishes. They also had an Orange Burnish.

I found a bit of info on the shells. They are (according to my source) maple/mahogony/maple 7-ply shells. I bet a reference floor tom would sound pretty close, but it would probably cost a lot. And the finish wouldn't match. Seriously, a maple keller shell would sound just fine with that kit, and it would cost a heck of a lot less to build your own drum. If you really want an exact match, you could have Pearl build you a Masterworks FT with the same ply configuration and finish, but that would be ridiculously expensive. Or just keep checking ebay. I've seem them on there in the past.

Thanks a lot for the info man. I'll take things into consideration. I think I am going to go pick them up. I'm thinking about offering $250 but maybe that would be too low. $300 seems like a steal to begin with.

Yeah, $300 is a good deal. Don't let those babies go. You'll really like the sound of those drums. You can still try to talk him down a bit, but I wouldn't push my luck too much if ya know what I mean. Get em'!

Yeah, that's a drag. They are great drums.

The sizes in the pics looked like 10x10, 12x10 14x12? and 22x16 or 18. It was a common shell pack then.

BTW, the PSS were called the SRX until 2001(?) when the SRX then became the name for the new, all-maple Sessions.

What a shame, that would have been a killer deal.

My understanding of the Session progression is similar to bigtone23's.
SRX was badged Prestige session select, was out from 1997 to 2001 and the next series released in 2001 was the SRX custom.
PSS was 7 ply, 7.5mm, Maple inner and out plies with 5 plies (phillipine) mahogany in the middle...
                              Always worth looking for!
