  • Weinberg's drums on Conan

Are the drums played by Max Weinberg on the Conan O'Brien Show Pacific? The oval lugs appear to be the Pacific lugs. I believe he plays DW when on tour with Springsteen.

I beleive you can request the Pacific style lugs as a "custom" option on DW drums. They aren't Pacific drums, however. You can tell by the DW badge on the drums.

            Max's kit

Max plays a DW kit. The lugs are not oval, but round and smaller than DWs of today. His kit is several years old, notice the RIMS mounts and no STMs. The lugs are smaller because he is an endorsed player. All endorsed DW artists have drums with smaller lugs.

Congrats on knowing DW endorsed artists and no I didn't pull that out of my ***. Chill...

Trust me the lugs are smaller. Probably only a quarter inch. It's hard to judge the size in that picture. The lugs are different enough to have people think they are Pacific.

If anyone can prove that I am wrong, bring it on.

DW makes 4 types of Lugs:
                    The Standard Round
                    The Pacific/Workshop series Oval
The Picalo Tom mini round lug
                    And tube lugs

I think it is possibe to get any of these on a DW kit, but it would be a special order, i know that you can get the Mini lugs, because i've seen a DW kit that had them on it, i don't however, know how they got them on there, but anyway

endorsers don't have smaller lugs, they probably just have the option, if they even can (i don't think so)

Sounds reasonable. This might help others who do not beleive in smaller lugs on the DW.

I would assume endorsers have this option to reduce the amount of metal contact on the shell. Meaning, this would allow the shell to "sing" better. The essence of the RIMS, STMS and Free Floating designs.
