The wait is over - my SMX arrived!
I ordered this kit in August, got the long awaited phone call on Friday and collected on Saturday. Despite my complete certainty something would go wrong the drums are perfect and exactly what I ordered, including the virgin bass, I am so happy!
The finish is superb on them, the pics don't do it justice and the sound is incredible even with the protones on. The bass gives a wonderful deep boom that hits you in the chest and the snare is like a gunshot. All the drums were tuned really way out so have been getting it sorted bit by bit. The snare had some evil buzz that I couldn't resolve so put on a new CS and Ambassador reso and it seems to have sorted it out now. The rest of the heads can stay on until they are dead, then I'll swap the lot out.
The layout has been tweaked here and there, as always, and no doubt I will tinker with it some more at some point, but for now am loving it like this. My old EX will be living in its cases now and coming out to play at rehearsals. It will be interesting to hear how it sounds after a week on the SMX, might even have to put both together one day
