Pearls Road show rock kit really for beginners?

I understand this line Pearl put out was to make a major drum kit producer of quality drums even more affordable. Even the kits are made for Jr. sizes. However I ran across a Pearl roadshow rock kit on Amazon and the sizes totally threw me off.. The sizes for the single rack tom was 12x9 (diameter x depth) it came with 2 floor toms 16x16 and 16x18, 22x18 bass drum and a 14x5.5 (I can't remember how deep the snare was) snare drum. The bass drum was a virgin bass so the 12x9 tom would need a mount (snare stand) or youd have to purchase the optilock system... However this configuration and sizes dont seem to be entry-level. Now Popular wood isnt the most expensive of course however ive never owned a kit made of it. Thus I cannot say anything negative.... I am accustomed to my 30 degree bearing edge (although I have another kit with a 45 degree). But the 18in floor tom strikes me as an appealing option. I have different snares and such I can use... But an 18in floor tom for my DW kit is just as expensive as the Pearl and I wonder if I should just go for the Pearl. Gigging a DW is great and all but I want a deep sound.. Maple is great. But I just wonder if popular wood could give me that thunder sound with some Remo pinstripes or evans EC2'S... Any opinions welcomed

Can you post a link to it? Seems mighty odd. Never heard of a 16FT 18" deep. And a 14x5.5 snare is obvs 5.5" deep.

Its 16x18... I did diameter then depth. Id be surprised to see an 18in deep floor tom myself..



But those sizes just dont seem like entry level or beginner level to me.. Especially 1 up 2 down and a virgin bass drum? Id love to know if the popular wood used to make these can tune low by chance? I'm sure its a matter of what batter/reso combo I use but ive never heard a kit made of this wood before.

That listing is wrong, is my opinion. Looking at the Pearl web site there is a configuration RS525WFC/C which comprises:
22x16
12x9
14x14
16x16
14x6.5
Cymbal Stand
Hi-Hat Stand
Snare Stand x 2

18x16 is an 18" dia tom, 16" deep, but there is no 18" floor tom in this range.

There's a photo of this configuration too, and it shows a virgin bass drum.

The Pearl link above states it includes 2 snare stands. Getting a hold of this configuration could be tricky, very few and far between.

The Roadshow line is pretty much the Export shells from back in the day. Nice built shells, variety of configurations and decent enough hardware. The cymbal shaped objects are quite atrocious.

I just got the exact same kit. 22" x 16" Bass Drum, 14" x 6.5" snare, 12" x 8" rack tom, 14" x 14" floor tom, and a 16" x 16" floor tom. I love the configuration! The cymbals are garbage but could be useful in stacking applications. My only complaint is that the 16" floor tom has 6 lugs instead of 8, but nevertheless, it sounds great with the Evans G1 batter head! I got a Paiste PST7 universal cymbal pack and I am one happy camper. I would gig with this kit anywhere!
