  • "Amazing" quality of the Pearl top line

Hi. I really do not recommend buying drums with lags, as on the reference series. the drum was not beaten or dropped. the lag just burst. most other lags also have cracks. in technical support indicated a non-warranty case. the drum was bought in Russia, used (there are no new ones in the store). but in this context it does not matter, because, from an instrument of this level, you expect a completely different quality. not cracked lags and cracked varnish. any cheap Chinese craft is better executed than such a $ 1000 drum. so think carefully before buying, if you are going, do you need such "happiness". a tool that can fail at any moment. and further disassembly with support.

The cracked/breaking lugs were a known issue with Pearl a few years back, and to my knowledge, Al and Gene would send replacement for any broken ones. As for the finish, lacquer cracks can happen. It was likely sold to you that way or just happened over time. I’m sure this will get ironed out.

Agreed, it was a known issue some 10-15 years ago. The issue has since been fixed.

It’s interesting since I’ve heard about the issues but never actually saw where or how the lugs were cracking.

It stinks that Pearl has such a bad reputation (as far as customer service goes) in other countries…
We really lucked out that we have Al here in the US.

I hope you hear some good news in the near future.

I have had nothing but great experiences with Pearl and warranty issues were covered for me.

Did you buy new or used? The warranty is great, but if a drum changes hands multiple times I don't know how that would effect it.

Nikolay - If the inside of your broken lugs say "Pearl 1N", it is first generation. We only replace under warranty to the original buyer. I will send a request to Pearl Europe on your behalf to see if they will honor replacements. I'm not promising anything but I will notify them if you respond to this post that the inside says Pearl 1N. I believe the new ones are 2NN (2nd generation) and we've had no failures.

Is your snare a 14x5 if so the lugs would be BRL55. Let me know.

written 1n. I am not the first drum owner (in russia there are big problems with buying new equipment). I have all the drums (reference pure) and hardware from pearl. it’s just very disappointing how such a company would allow this in relation to its top line. hardware i have been buying new. racks, cardan ... there was such an opportunity

Nikolay - I will send PME (Pearl Europe) your information. When they contact you, just tell them and show them your inside lug says Pearl 1N. They will know its first generation. I will request for them to send a complete set of 10 replacement lugs. Your Reference snare is 14x5 yes, so the lug size would be BRL55. Please confirm before I contact PME.

              Thank-you Al

And in a situation that warranty, which is unmatched in the industry, doesn't even cover (not the original buyer) and to a customer who, in my humble opinion, is being a bit of a jerk.

What else needs to be said about AL.
Time and time again he and Pearl go
above and beyond. Things break. That
is a constant. Pearl stands behind their
products period. If Pearl makes a mistake
they will fix it. Sorry to go on and on I
am flying on several pain pills for my back.
Anyway much love and respect to AL and Pearl.

1 - You've clearly never dealt with Russians before, they're very direct people
2 - Communicating in a second language is pretty damn difficult.

The drum was out of warranty. If I were the customer, I would have expected to purchase the lugs. Pearl covered it anyhow. I'm very impressed. This is one of the many reasons why 90% of my drums are Pearl.
