  • Red Glass

I bought my Reference Series set in 2008. It's a 9 piece double kick set finished in Red Glass. I'm still impressed with the set after all these years. Sorry to learn that Pearl no longer offers the Red Glass finish.
    PEARL Reference Series in Red Glass: 24 x 18 Kicks (2) / 14 x 6.5 wood Snare / 12 x 9, 13 x 10, 14 x 11, 15 x 12 Rack Toms / 16 x 16 & 18 x 16 Floor Toms
15 cymbals Zildjian and Sabian / Pearl and Tama hardware.

John - Color 407 Red Glass is part of our MCC (Music City Custom series), so it is still available in Reference, Reference Pure and Masters Maple Reserve.

I had forgotten all about this color. Play red or hide it in the shed.

Interesting that the Red Glass Finish is still available for the Reference Series drums but is not shown as an available color option on the web site. Does one have to contact somebody to place a special order?

Ordered mine through a dealer in 2008. I guess that made it a special order. Red Glass was a choice then that's not offered now on Pearl's web page. By the way, not ALL Reference drums are special order as you say. It is possible to buy them right off the floor.

Historically, it looks like Pearl used to offer a few finishes as "in stock" finishes and allowed you to order the other finishes as "special order". In the readily available "in stock" finishes, they only offered a few sizes and the more uncommon sizes would still have to be ordered as "special order."

Now, in regards to #407 Red Glass, it looks like most sizes (https://pearldrum.com/products/kits/...om/#components) can be made via Music City Custom line in Reference specs and shipped out within 14 days. I am guessing the only major difference will be in the series badge.

I hope this is correct and it helps.

It looks to me that all Reference, Reference Pure and Masters Maple Reserve are available in #407 Red Glass via Music City Custom, like Al stated above. It's on the website that way and the new 2020 Catalog.

When I got my Refs in 2009/2010, I went through Guitar Center's website, and Scarlet Fade was an "in stock" finish, but it still took a couple months for some of the drums to arrive. They had a 10x8, 12x9, 16x16, and a 22x18 able to ship to my local GC in less than a week, but the 14x5 snare and 14x14 floor tom took another two months. Still better than their new lead times of 6 to 9 months. Oh well...
