  • 22x18 RF Kick is Cracking!

Hey guys I'm really excited because I got this kick for a great deal, but take a look at this crack.
It's actually a brand new kick, but Pearl doesn't have any replacements and that's ok because I got a better price on it.

Is there anything I can do to fix it or prevent it from getting worse?

    Thanks!
    Brad

Squeeze as much carpenters white glue into the crack as you can, then clamp it. It will be as good as new.

Elmer's wood glue. Try to get it in all the way down the crack. Don't clamp too hard as you will squeeze all
the glue out. Leave it for a day. Be sure to make the bearing edge smooth with light sanding if needed. Good luck.

I did the same as the guys above stated on a MMX - thinner- bass drum with much worse crack. Good glue to fill the crack and leave for couple of days to rest. Then check the drum is not out of round and you are ready to go.

If the glue will not soak into the crack well, try thinning the glue with a little water... not much. Thinning the glue could help more glue make it down into the smaller gaps. Good luck!

You should only thin the glue to a 5% water ratio, or you won't have the hold.

Right on guys! Thanks, I was getting a little worried, but that sounds very easy and like it will work. I'll give it a shot!

Now that the crack is fixed, what finish is the drum?

Suppose twilight fade as the rest of the kit?

Here's the finished product. It's not the best but it's petty good. The drum sounds killer.
                            What do you guys think?

I would have used better clamps to hold it as tight as possible. Looks like it still could be done better.
