I've a 22x20 MMX kick, and I can honestly say its my favourite bass I've ever played. I love the way it feels, with the right tuning you get great rebound and still have an unbeliveable bassy tone, and it has incredible volume and projection. When there are people in my house I generally don't play it full tilt due to the fact that you can feel it all over the house. I never get tired of playing this drum, I've always heard arguments telling me it lacks versatility but I've yet to encounter this problem, and I play all kinds of music with all kinds of different people metal to jazz to acoustic to funk to hiphop to straight rock.
Always get compliments on this bass, no regrets whatsoever about getting it.

I have the Ref 22x20 and love it. I almost immediately replaced the stock heads with an Aquarian Superkick I/Regulator combo, as well as the stock Tama IC beaters with Slug Punch Collar ones, and can honestly say it's perhaps the best bass drum I have ever played (I've been playing over 25 years).

I like to record myself while I practice and it actually sounds close to perfect in my basement with my Shure Beta 52 and Mackie board, straight to a 25 year old cassette deck!

I also have a Tama (all maple) 22x18 with the exact same heads and beaters and I prefer the Ref. The Tama sounds good, but the Ref seems to have a little extra of all the things most drummers prefer in a bass drum sound. I really think Pearl hit the nail on the head with the Ref BD and snare and they are probably my favorite drums out of the series.
        For sale!:
        13" Zildjian A Mastersound top/New Beat bot HH's

wow your kit is so nice! what is that marching type snare on the left of you hi-hat? it looks amazing did you make it or is it like a custom drum company that made it for you?

i have to say your set up is great as well i'm gonna buy the pearl masters white on white its just slightly bigger sizes i think.

Thank you! It was a prototype drum that never made it to production... I think Pearl made like 20 or 30 of them for a Japanese Indoor drumline and I was able to snag one of them off ebay for a STEAL! It uses the same hardware from Pearl's Championship FFX marching series snares.
