  • Fix Scratches on Lacquer Finish

    Hi,

I bought a Reference Pure drum kit when they first came out and love them still.

I once let someone play them at a gig and he put his spare sticks on my bass drum which spun on the bass drum and has scratched the finish. The finish is a Midnight Fade lacquer. The scratch is the length of a stick but isn't deep and you cant feel it or dig a nail into it or anything.

How would I be able to remove this scratch easily and get it back to its original finish? Is there a product that is good for this without sanding and having to do anything very skilled or risky?

    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi..
A good quality car care product such as Maguiars ultimate compound is good for removing light scratches and polishing surfaces. There are other products like T-Cut which is a bit harsher, but if the scratch is only very light I would start with a less aggressive product and see if that works first. After that you could apply a car wax to finish. Being a bit OCD every few years I would strip my shells and give them the once over. If its good enough for my Ferrari its good enough for my drums (I wish).
    Hope this helps !

Oh yeah - make sure to get a nice polishing cloth don't use a cheap duster or old rag. Plus ensure its clean.
    Thanks...
