  • Evans G14 heads / took the Ref Pure kit out for the first time in a while

I'm ridiculously protective of this kit, so I take it out to gigs quite rarely (the Yamaha Maple Custom kit is a decent alternative, as is my 'new' Masters Birch / Premier APK jellybean kit). The upside is that I never quite remember just how amazing this kit is, so it always completely blows my mind when I do occasionally take it out.

Tried some new heads on it last week - Evans G14s, absolutely loved these, they sound fantastic and seem to be a good match for the kit. Just a bit warmer and more focussed than Ambs etc, less brittle sounding, but still with tons of tone. Really, really impressed, will be sticking with these...

Took some photos and was thinking of putting them in the next DOTM, but don't think they've come out pretty enough to have any sort of chance, so will pop them here instead

That is a great looking kit. I thought it was a 24" bass drum until I read the specs. I just tried the Evans Black Chrome heads on my 12" & 14" toms and was impressed with the sound that was produced. Although I am not a fan of black heads, I would buy them again.

You should still enter the DOTM.

        Thanks

Those black chrome heads sound great, though I'm not a fan of black heads either...

            Thanks Matt
The stack sounds super trashy, and better than either of those cymbals on their own
