  • Why so dead in here?

Why is the Reference Pure section so dead? Compaired to the Reference section and all of the other series this place is a ghost town. I absolutely love my Ref Pure kit. I thought they were selling fairly well. What gives??

Not sure why. My Reference Pure kit sounds great and to me, sounds superior to the regular Reference kit I used to own.

I think the quality of the drums is fine, but I don't think there are that many out there, and probably only a fraction of owners make their way to the PDF.
I own or have owned drums and cymbals made by every major manufacturer. My go-to kit is a DW Collectors series set.

OK - Just to add some commentary here:
I have had my RP set for about 4 mos. now. I loved it from the day it arrived. It's a 22x18, 16x16, 9x12, 8x10, came from a store in Canada at a significant savings, even after freight charges. The most influential aspect of the kit to me - aside from the sound and quality - is the (lighter) weight. I have been hauling Ludwig drums around for many years and am tired of heavy gear, especially when the added weight accomplishes little if anything with regard to sound. I already have an MCX kit (same sizes) and I do prefer the RP kit. So after playing the kit for a few weeks, I ordered a matching 20x14 bass and 14x14 floor tom which will allow me to setup different size configurations. I'm at day 103 of the "3 to 6 month" wait period for these two new drums and am getting excited.

Don't get me started on overweight "double braced stands". . . . .

The PDF has way too many subforums.

I was thinking the same thing when I noticed the "RP head choice" thread went almost a month without a reply.

Hopefully mine will be shipping in the next 3 weeks. This will be my 6th Pearl set.

Most post and chat in General Discussions/Show Us Your Kits. The Ref section still has a bit more traffic because they've been around longer and there are a few established PDFers that have them, IMO.

As for Ref Pure, I'd be looking at them if I had the need to change in future.

I love my reference pure set. They have such a good tone and feel when you play them. I think lots of people jumped to a reference kit when that line was introduced and due to that, there are more active posters in that forum. Reference kits also tend to cost a little less than Reference pure kits so people tend to gravitate towards them. They are thicker shelled and I think people assume that they are more for rock and metal, while the lighter reference pure kits get viewed as a jazz or a "specialty" kit. I've owned a reference kit. I would trade them in for a reference pure kit in a second.

For those that follow the Pearl Drums facebook page, they shared a pic of my kit in the studio earlier today. Shimmer Of Oz.

Why so dead in here? Maybe it's because Reference Pure owners spend their time playing the drums -- and less time pounding computer keys. It's a side effect of having the best drums on the planet.

                      It's a theory.
