Hello there, I'm new to this forum, though I frequent another drumming forum on the web as well. I wish this didn't have to be my first post, but alas. As a heads up, I tend to post very long and in complete detail, just a heads up.
So, I decided to upgrade to a top of the line pedal a while back, and opted for the Demon Drive double kick, being a Pearl fan. Ordered it off of Ebay (Low price, high seller rating), and when it arrived, I set it up to my specifications (Long board, high spring tension, forward beater position, slightly larger beater angle, basically every tweak possible to get more power), and immediately noticed a problem. When I was playing it, there was no issue at all, quite the opposite; played like a dream. However, if I took my foot off and pulled back the beater with my hand then released, just letting it swing, there was this irritating clicking. It's not a huge problem in the scope of things, but it's still a problem, and having paid as much as I did, I wasn't satisfied with that. A local music shop, my engineer dad and I all concluded that the noise was from play in one of the joints in the direct drive link, which is something no adjustment is going to fix. I ended up sending the pedal back (At my expense), and the seller said they couldn't detect a problem with it at all, then sent me a new one. It had the exact same problem. I sent that back, again at my expense, and bought one from the local store. Higher price, but I could at least be sure that they'd be of more help in the matter. As of now, I've spent just under $800 trying to get a not clicking Demon Drive (That number arrived at by adding the price of the one I got from the store and the shipping from Ebay). We set it up to those specifications in store (Short of adjusting the beater stroke, which I did at home), and it seemed great at first. There was some clicking in the left foot pedal, but it was far less substantial then in the replacement one I'd been sent, so I figured I could live with that and took it home. Again, the same problem seems to be showing up, and I have no idea why. Again, I'm quite sure it's a problem with one of the direct drive joints, but I have no idea what's causing it. Here is a video detailing the problem, shown on the second pedal I received from the Ebay seller: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtDpQ...1&feature=plcp
That said, I absolutely love this pedal, and want to play it for years and years to come. I just want to have one set up so it's not clicking like this, if possible. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope to hear some advice.
