Live streaming a music performance question
Hey everyone! I’d like to do a live stream on Facebook of myself drumming along to an album by my band. I’m probably just going to use my iPhone on a tripod to record the video, and I’ll have earbuds connected to my laptop or iPad for me to hear the album, but since I don’t own a PA so as to have the album playing for the live audience I would need a way to feed the album audio (which I’ll be hearing as well) from my laptop or iPad to the phone which is broadcasting the live video in addition to capturing the live drums, which will not be mic’d. Any thoughts on a good, reliable, hopefully inexpensive solution? I apologize, total noob here!

Yes. OBS is great, if you are going to stream from your computer. It sounds like SconnieCycleDad is going to be streaming from his phone. I did a 2.5hr livestream yesterday for Long & McQuade, a music retail chain in Canada. I had two cameras on tripods and my laptop web cam for video, and was running audio from a lav mic, my V-Drums kit and Ableton Live. You still need all of the hardware and connectors to get audio and video into your computer from outside sources. I was using a Roland VR-1HD video mixer for the two cameras, and managing the stream feed from OBS. The video gear was all loaner stuff.
SconnieCycleDad - if you are just going to stream from your phone (which will be easier in terms of managing the stream itself), you could use something like the Go:Mixer (https://www.roland.com/ca/products/gomixer/), which is designed specifically for this purpose. You'll need a mic for your kit though. When you plug something like this into your phone to record audio, it "takes over" your phone's audio routing, so your phone's mic won't work while it's plugged in. You'd plug the mic into the mic input of the Go:Mixer, the headphone output of your computer\iPod into the Go:Mixers line in. You'd plug your headphones into the Go:Mixer to listen.
You'd need:
1.) Go:Mixer
2.) A mic (something like an SM57 will work, they are inexpensive and rugged)
3.) An XLR Female to 1\4" Male cable to plug the mic into the Go:Mixer.
4.) An 1\8" to 1\8" Stereo ("aux") cable to plug the computer\iPod into the Go:mixer.
5.) You might need a headphone extender cable to get your headphones plugged into the Go:Mixer, which will be plugged into your phone."I'm gonna sleep outside... it's like Earth here, except less pollution, and more moons"sigpicComment

OBS is a software platform that allows you to manage multiple video and audio sources to be sent to a stream. You can receive video and\or audio from external devices (like cameras or audio interfaces plugged into your USB ports), as well as videos\images\audio from within your computer (to share your screen, or to share a specific application window). The iRig 2 only has a single instrument input, so you'd need a bunch of extra gear to make this work. You'd still need to mic up your drums, and send the mic and audio from your computer to a mixer of some sort, and then you'll only be able to send it in mono. If you wanted to go this route, the iRig Pro Duo would be better, as it records in stereo, but you'd still need a mixer.Originally posted by SconnieCycleDad View Post
