  • Mimic Pro - Really a good drum module? Hihat Midi CC, USB, LAN??

Actually I was enthusiastic about the Mimic Pro until recently. Then I had to realize that you can only save the drum recording in the form of audio on the device. Actually bad that you only need the memory of the Mimic to record audio tracks of your drum recordings.
But then came the big disappointment when I tried to record midi to an external device (daw). Hihat CC messages are separate from normal midi??? Why? What were you thinking? Then I thought, well, there must be a workaround for this problem. Unfortunately, I was bitterly disappointed. It´s not possible to playback an record the midi stuff without problems.
The Mimic Pro is probably the only module I know that cannot send a Hihat Midi CC via the standard channel 10. What nonsense is that? So much money for a module that cannot even fulfill the standard functions? Roland, Alesis and co can do that for 1/5 of the price. But cleverly done. In none of the videos is only received somehow on Midi CC. Even in the manual. But that's what everyone assumes these days. No, not in the case of the Mimic Pro. So you put a lot of money for a half-finished module. But we're not even talking about connections on the Mimic, which still don't serve a purpose after years, but are advertised with great success. See USB and LAN. The touchscreen is a cheek and just doesn't work properly. That's almost cheating.I expect as many 100s of others, that this problems will be solved with a firmware update as soon as possible. Because if it stays that way, I'll sell my Mimic. So it's of no use to me.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I saw your message and I would like to comment on it.

It looks like you wanted to record midi on the Mimic and you found that it didn't have a midi sequencer. Correct?

It was never stated that it had one. Our emphasis was on the audio recorder.

The second issue was the hi hat recording on 2 channels. Although it seems weird that the CC isn't on the same midi channel, it gives you a full track to view and edit the control change if needed. When you setup your DAW's midi studio, the instrument track can send and receive on all 16 midi channels and if you wanted just one track, then you could have used ANY as your midi channel and the notes would go to channel 10 and the CC would go to 4 and they would be on a single track.

The USB is used for updates and audio and we haven't received a ton of requests for USB midi. ( I personally would like it but the 5 pin midi is used in more pro
    applications for larger stage shows.)

We are working on another update and the release will be announced soon.

Keep the faith, you made the right purchase.

I'm curious when and if there will be an update and if there is an update, what has been fixed at all.

        by the way.
the internet presence of pearl's support page also leaves a lot to be desired. Many pages have no content or are incorrectly linked or do not work at all.
It's not my job to tell the company which pages these are. I don't get paid for this. It's bad enough that I have to deal with these things in my spare time at all.

The Pearl company hasn't just been around since yesterday and has had a good reputation for me so far.
But now, Pearl should be pretty much ashamed of this way of pranking her own buyers.
I really would have expected more from Pearl.

          Thanks for your comments.

The update is coming very soon but I cannot give you a date.

We are not pranking our users and all of the pages seem to be working on our site here in the US.

          Where are you located?

We have seen some issues with customers out of the US.

Hi Bob, I'm a long-time PMP fan. In fact I owned one of the first shipped in the US (I'm the guy that suggested the box redesign after receiving two with bent input knob shafts that clearly occurred in shipping, and you and I connected on that.)

Anyway, as I mentioned on the VDRums forum on a similar thread, "Is the Mimic Pro dead,?" I have no current intention of selling mine, though I have been anxiously waiting on the update.

I know you cant give us a date, but when you say "very soon" in most people's minds that means weeks or perhaps a few months. It definitely means less than 6, or you wouldn't say "very soon" I trust.

So though you can't give exact dates, can you at least tell us if we are talking less than 3 months?

              Thanks.

Anything new about this? The community is of the opinion that the Mimic is dead and not supported any more......

The Mimic Pro is very much alive and there are no plans to discontinue it... more information will be shared on our social media pages when it is available.

I'm curious if anything else is going to happen. So far, of course, there is no new information about any updates. I knew that anyway.
