    I have the 7x13 birch/gum snare and it's GLORIOUS.

As I understand, it incorporates Pearl Masterworks Sonic Select Urban Shell Recipe. Urban! Like Stanley from The Office.

I keep seeing comments and marketing messages that say the Masterworks Studio recipe is "the same thing, only with thinner shells". Then I see another comment that says the Masterworks Studio recipe is a 6-ply shell (Todd Sucharman even says this in a YouTube tour of his kit). The Pearl Drums website contradicts itself and states A) 6-ply, and then B) 4-ply with rings on the Masterworks Studio page. Pearl clearly has poor QA control of its website content and marketing messages when it comes to these two products.

What is the truth/difference between these two shell configurations? Any wizarding insight is much appreciated.

That is Masterworks Sonic Select stadium series with 10-ply shells on the bass drum and 8-ply on the toms and floor toms for maximum power. The bearing edges are 60' outer cut for increased brightness and power. These shells are heavy like the older CZX series.
Thank you for the information, Al.

Right now i have clear EC2's over Ambassadors (they're what I had on hand) and they have given me great true, clear, fundamental notes without any overtones.
Thanks for the insight, appreciate it. Sounds a bit like what I'm after.

That was it, I traded it in Scottsdale toward a Roland td-30kv.
