  • Masterworks options. Please help.

    g'day folks.

I am looking into the possibility of a Masterworks snare drum. My initial question is: Will Pearl make a custom shell for a Free Floater?

Next question is: Is a rounded 45 bearing edge an option with Masterworks?

    Thanks in advance.

Without going into detail, your best bet is to connect with a Pearl dealer and complete the MW paperwork, getting written confirmation that you can actually get what you want.

I know the 45 bearing edge is a yes. Andyman1970 has a Masterworks free floater in Reference specs. I would assume it is possible, but I would contact a dealer so they can get you a definite yes or no from Pearl PMI.

It would be very interesting to see a picture of Andyman's Masterworks® Free Floater in Reference® specs. I don't think that that would be possible. Do you mean that it is a Free Floater with a Reference® spec shell? A shell that thick wouldn't fit in the framework of a FFS drum.

I dont see why they wouldnt be able to do custom shells for the FF, it dosent say anywhere that they dont. It wouldn't be very hard to do a shell with no drilling done.

I think Andyman's freefloating masterworks is in referance specs. I am just unsure of whether they will just make the shell.

The drum in question is a Masterworks® version of a Free Floater. It is not built to the Reference® shell specs as the thick shell will not work in a FFS framework. There have been other threads in the forum that asked that same question. Every response from Pearl has been that you can get a Masterworks FFS® snare drum just not one that is any thicker than a standard FFS®. As a Masterworks® drum it can be made with whatever finish that you wish.

For the 5th time that snare IS FREE FLOATER Masterworks in Reference specs. Are you on something? It is that thick and it DOES fit. Look at the pics in the thread I post for you. Here, I will post them for you so you can see for yourself.

I have also post a direct quote from AL Percival who works for Pearl.

lol, that's awesome how you put in the registered trademark symbol all over the place! But, I haven't contributed anything useful to this thread, so for that I apologize *fades away* but the pics already posted provide the answers.
