20 ply on a 13" shell means you're only going to have an 5x11 air chamber inside the drum. Why not just get a 4x13 6-ply shell and have a little more tone to the drum? Either way, it's going to give you a pretty high fundamental -- close to making a piccolo out of a Reference.

Ahh...I didn't think of it like that. Maybe I'll rethink this whole project a bit.

Crap. I was really wanting die cast. Hmm. Back to the drawing board I guess.

If they can do the 8 lug and you were wanting the 8 lug , go for it. You can always buy a set of 13 inch 8 lug die cast hops. Plus it would give you two sets of hoops for the drum and a wider tuning range. One will be more focused (die cast) and the other will be wider open sounding (2.3 super hoop II's). I myself don't care for a six lug snare drum. But that is just me. If that is what you like go for it.

Our current reference spec 25mm shell is 6-lugs on the 13" using a diecast DC1306. You could use 8 lugs if using superhoops SH-II (SH1308). I can ask PMI if they can do that for you in MW?

Ok we can close this thread...I ended up picking up a 5x14 steel Ref. snare...and my god I can't imagine finding a snare that sounds as good as this!
