  • I need an opinion on a MW snare idea.

I want to get a custom snare done, basically a Ref spec 20 ply, but a 13x5, 8 lug. Any one heard anything like this? Also, I want to custom design the graphic to match my band art, I know they can do things like the spidey graphic, so does that give me free reign to send them a hi-res file and they'll apply it appropriately?
Thanks Al...and any one else with .2 cents

    I don't see why they wouldn't.

According to the MW price list, 20 ply snares are only available in the 3 standard Ref sizes for now.

Show us the custom graphic you have in mind. They'll do their best to match it but that doesn't mean they can do everything you want...

I don't have it photoshopped up yet, I'm waiting to see if the size is even doable before I spend hours on how it looks. I'm flexible on the art too, but I'd say its about as complex as the spidey graphic.

I'm very sure they could do that!

Hi Damon - if you send a swatch color or pic of your graphic, Pearl PMI will do their best to match it. They will send you a sample and if you are happy with it, you'll sign off on it and production on your snare will begin.

So you're saying that size in an 8 lug is doable in Ref plies?

Our current reference spec 25mm shell is 6-lugs on the 13" using a diecast DC1306. You could use 8 lugs if using superhoops SH-II (SH1308). I can ask PMI if they can do that for you in MW?

Crap. I was really wanting die cast. Hmm. Back to the drawing board I guess.

Well on the other hand, 6 lugs will let the art show through better, I'll get it designed and send you a copy Al.

IF you buy a Ref snare. Andy bought a MW 14x8, 20ply, free floating snare.

Actually the number of lugs on a snare isn't that important.
There are a lot of professional 8 lug 14" snares, for example Premier Modern Classics or the old Tama SC Performers.
I think there is too much of a hype about having 10 lugs on a 14" and 8 lugs on a 13".
Btw, less lugs on a shell increase the shell resonance, which means more versatility.
