  • 2014 Pearl Masters Mahogany Limited Edition MMH Owners

Hi everyone! Does anyone own the 2014 Masters Mahogany MMH drums? They came in Brooklyn Burst with the Die Cast hoops. I’m trying to find out what the shell specs are because I see some places 6 ply mahogany with maple reinforcement hoops and some places 4 ply (2 maple outer/2 mahogany inner) with maple reinforcement hoops.

Any help from actual owners would be great! Thank you!

Do you know if the shell from the MHP was kept for the 2014 MMH line?

Oh yeah. Shell is identical since the first mahogany shells came out in early 2000s I think.

Oh ok! I may try calling Pearl on Monday. I just bought the last one of these kits available that were still new in box amazingly and I just would like to know for sure what it is lol. It’s doesn’t really matter though because it only matters how they sound. I just thought it was really cool that the kit is from 2014 and it literally new in box still in 2021. Got a great deal from Musicforall.biz! Excellent company! I’ll post picture when I get it up and running. Arrives on Wednesday!

Yeah the shells are identical. Haven’t changed at all. Yours has a different finish and die casts. Mine has a fully finished bass hoop and super hoops and aluminum optimounts.

Thank you Al! I know the hardware was different on the 2009 version of the Masters LE mahogany kits. We’re the shells the same as the 2014?

Also are the 2014 Masters LE African mahogany or a different type? Thank you again!

Al, are the 2009 shells, the same as the MHX? I've been playing a kit in the mimic library, that are all MHX shells and it sounds phenomenal. It's making me consider changing my MW ply layup to the same shell recipe. One of those two kits (MHX & MHP) had cast vs superhoops, correct? I've never played an MHP but I have played MHX shells in real life and thought they sounded really fat and warm. Might just be what I'm looking for.

Quick question Al...I was just wondering why for this kit did Pearl go with a 2.5 hoop/2 ply hoop rather than the standard 4 ply hoop? Was it solely for cost or a different reason? Just curious!
