    Hey guys,

Well as you may have seen, I posted earlier in the week about possibly adding legs to my hanging floor toms. I have long wanted floor toms with legs, ever since the day I bought my kit. However when the offer came up and it became available to me, I wasn't going to pass it up simply because it had hanging floor toms. I have always disliked hanging ones though, as they have made the downsizing of a smaller gigging kit rather tough at times. I have always wanted to come up with a nice 4 piece, or 1 up 2 down setup for gigging, much like a Bonham or Chad Smith kit. But the hanging floors always irked me, and never gave me what I really wanted. Everything just looked goofy hanging on stands, and it was too much clutter. Well I've decided to purchase a cradle-like suspension system for the floor toms. I was looking at Gauger's Dynamount system, but they are a bit pricey and would end up costing me well over $300 for everything once all was said and done. However I was pointed towards another brand, Worldmax, by PDF member SoCalMike. He said he used them before and they were great, never had a problem with them. And they would cost only a third of what the Dynamounts would run me. So I believe I'm going to go with them. The thing is, I'm staying in California this summer until about the end of July, so I won't be able to purchase and install them until I get home. However in the meantime, just thought I'd post a mock up version of my kit as it will be once I get the mounts. This is pretty much the gigging kit I've always desired, whether its a 5 piece like this, or a 4 piece with one of the floors taken away. Still debating on adding the china or not since I'm not sure if I will have a stand for it.

The other two pictures are of Mike's floor tom with the Worldmax rim on it. I would probably also upgrade the legs to Pearl Air Suspension legs as well.

Check back with me in August

Hey Lonny, I posted a link to them in my original post. And I'm in Turlock, CA. Right in the middle of central valley, about 2 hours east of San Fran. Staying with family friends, working, and seeing the sights for the summer.

You're pretty close to Eric! I lived in the Bay Area for a year but I like Southern Ca more. (Not to live there again though; just to visit).

Looks good. Just remember, you won't get the floor toms as close together as you may have had them before. The cradle adds about an inch or so around the drum, so if you fitting up two toms with them, then you're going to have roughly a 2" gap between the batter hoops (unless of course you angle them in to each other)

Hmm thanks for reminding me of that. Hopefully it won't be too big of a deal.

Really, adding the floor tom brackets is not a big deal.

All the Gauger RIMS mounts are aluminum and they have slidable fittings for the drum lugs, hence more money.

The Worldmax ones are chromed steel. Note in the pics how the leg brackets stick out. That was my big problem with that style in casing. Bagging was better but very snug. Foir casing, I needed the next size up AND it was best to put a layer of foam around the drum shell so it didn't knock around inside the larger case.

For the price, a great product. Especially if they come with legs. Pearl suspension feet were about $10 a set last I checked. I added them to mine at the time, too. You might want to consider buying a Pearl UPK1 (upgrade kit) set. It was a steal for what you get. A set of suspension tips, a Pearl Quad beater, and a complete set of rubber "felt" replacements for hihats (3 point suspension cup washer, and two clutch washers).

                        Hey Chris,

Good luck on your experiment. I'm a little torn on what I would do in this situation. The cracked lacquer doesn't make these easy either. I guess if you had a drum craftsman in your area then I would get the FT brackets put in if he thought the lacquer wouldn't crack anymore. If you don't have a craftsman in the area, then I would probably go the route your going. I think you'll like the total freedom you have with the legs on your floors.
