  • BRX tuning and heads

I recently purchased a Pearl BRX Platinum Mist, I love them.
My question is this, in relation to Maple having more low end than Birch, what head configuration and tuning configuration would any recommend to get some more warmer low end sounds out of a birch kit.

    Thanks,
    D2Drummer

I purchased a BRX which originally had Remo Ambassadors. I switched to Aquarian Studio X texture coated heads and instantly the sound were deeper, rich and warm. Try it.

P.S. The BD has a Superkick set on it.

Cesar, you've got alot if useful information there for everyone to read, great job. The only thing that I had wanted to add, which I previously posted, was my feelings on the Studio X texture coated heads with Classic Clears on the reso side. I can't express how happy I am with this combo. I know you stated some things about the Response series, and such, but you had no info on the heads that I use. That is why I wanted to put my 2 cents in too.

          Cheers!

I have a set of BRX Platinum Mist w/ black hardware on the way. Should arrive within 3 weeks after a 5 1/2 month wait!! I have Aquarian double-thin clears waiting for them, as well as Evans Resonants for the resonant side. I'm anxious to hear how they will sound. I also have a Superkick I in the box that I'll install as well. I may try the Studio-X texture coated or even double-thin coated next time if I'm not totally stoked about the sound the double-thin clears give me. Those Remo Suedes sound interesting. I don't tune high, usually middle-of-the-road.

Kind of off the topic, I also picked up some Studio-X clear with Power Dot heads for my 10"/12" roto toms. They sound OK, not much sustain, but if you hit 'em square and solid, they sound nice. Love the look they give the roto toms, too!
