tuning trouble

Hello guys, I just would like some help on tuning. I just put some coated pinstripes over top of clear ambassadors, but I can't seem to get a good sound out of them. I had the same trouble with the coated emperors I just replaced. I would be very grateful for all the help I can get.

Make sure you're tuning in the proper pattern. Always across, never in a circle. Maybe look up diagrams depending on how many lugs are on one side of the drum that you're having tuning trouble with has. There are plenty Hope this helps. Another thing I really like to use if you have the money for it is the Drum Dial. It's great. But trust me, learn the pattern/diagram! Hope this helps

shells could be out of round....bearing edges could have problems.....

tune the resos tighter than the batters.....

dont try to make your kit sound like whatever you hear on recordings....that's a fools errand......those sounds are processed more than anything you can do in real life.

New heads need to be broken in. Tune them higher than you like to and try to ignore what they sound like and get a good session in. After you've beat on them for an hour or so go back and tune them up to your desired settings on your tune-bot and they should sound much better.
Are you using the tuning calculator app for the tune-bot? If not check it out and play around with the different settings.
Tips-
get each tension rod finger-tight then tune each one up in half turns moving in a star pattern around the lugs. Once you get close to your desired sound, tune in very small turns. Like millimeters small.
Also make sure the heads are evenly seated around the edges and are not being pulled in one direction.
Its always easier to tune them up rather than bring them down to the sound you're after.

Thank you everybody, I will give a lot of attention to these suggestions. Sorry for not specifying the sound i am getting, it is very thin and weak when I tune it to default pitch on the tune bot calculator. And if I tune it lower, it starts having this weird tinny quavering sound. Thank you for all these suggestions. I forgot how much better the drums sound after you play them for a while. I will try out these suggestions and get back to you. Wish me best of luck, and THANK YOU everybody for the help.

More importantly is learning the relationships the tension has at each point; i.e. What happens to point 2 when you alter point 1 and so on. Not as much or a problem if you're using a TB though

Quick and easy way to tune...Remove batter. Tune reso to desired sustain. (Usually about a half to full turn from finger tight) After tension, tune each lug to the same pitch.

Install batter head, finger tighten and then in a cross pattern using your tuning key, turn each lug about a half turn and repeat. After tension, tune each lug to the same pitch and you should have a very doable tuned drum.
