  • about the die cast hoop

    hi all,

do you know how's the different between the normal hoop and

mastercast die cast hoop influence the tom sound?

i am consider to upgrade these

Die cast hoops will cut alot of Resonance (Ring) out of toms and snares. They help to deaden overtones. Personally, i only like using them on snares. I dont like them on toms. I want the extra resonance in my toms. Its personal prefference. Try a kit with them (Prefferable the same type you have) to see if you like what they do.

As Slipknot1 said, they will cut resonance (I could never figure out why they would put them on the Masters and MW toms - except to justify the price).

For toms, the Superhoop II would be my choice. For snare drum, die-cast, but only on the batter side.

I cant figure why they insist on using Die Cast hoops on there top end kits. That is one of the reasons i did'nt buy another Tama SC. Why you would pay all the money for a 6 or 7 ply maple kit and then put die cast hoops on it is beyond me. Some people like the sound, fine, but it should be an OPTION, not standard.

I'm amazed Pearl hasn't jumped on the wooden hoop bandwagon yet, at least for some of their signature or top-end snares?

Wood hoops can be a pain from a customer service standpoint since they can and often do get damaged. I am only guessing thats why Pearl, Tama and other big companies dont want to do alot with wood hoops.
