DW 5000 double pedal - adjust spring tension

Hey all,

This is absurd but I bought a used dw5000 double pedal and the spring tension is maxed. I need to loosen it. However, I seem to have no idea how to do this. Can’t find a video online that shows this process. I can easily loosen the round nut on top, but what am I supposed to do with the hex shaft underneath? It doesn’t turn with the hand. Is it supposed to turn? Do I wrench it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have to pull down on it after you loosen the round nut. The hex nut “engages” the piece above it. Like, it fits into a notch that is the same shape as the nut so it wont loosen by itself. I hope that makes sense… its hard to explain.
