  • DR-80 clamp help

Hi all, I recently bought new cymbal stands for my rack, but I wasn't considering whether they would fit or not. I bought black Mapex 600 series which are 3/4" tubing, but the pc-08 clamps hold 7/8". Any advice on making the gauge smaller inside the clamp? The pc-07 clamps work, but they are hard to find and I already have many pc-08s that I'd like to make work.

Did you buy the whole stand or just the top tube and boom arm?

Would one of the modern ICON clamps not fit?

Okay. In your OP you said you bought "stands" so I was thinking you might be able to use the next tube down...

I was thinking the same. Maybe a 1.5 inch length of garden hose with a slit cut down the side?

They are. Certainly compatible. I think cost is the issue.

I didn't realize the Icon clamps fit the DR-80. That would be a real easy fix. I assume those fit a more wide variety of sizes? If not, the garden hose is a pretty solid idea too. I'd rather use what I have since I have like 10 of them, but I don't want it to look trashy either. Maybe I'll just get the Icons.

They fit perfectly, and hold any pipe from 1/2" to 1" I believe

No. I made them on a CNC lathe machine.

Oh wow, that's super cool dude.

If you could make them in different colors and diameters, and if they're easy to trim to length, you could easily sell those.

What i would do is go to an automotive store and buy a certain length of 3/4" black rubber heater hose that will fit over your cymbal arm tube.If it is really tight which it will be i imagine- you can use soap and water and slide the piece you cut up the tube to your desired height and it will eventually dry and will be tight enough on there.

You would cut the hose a couple inches in length i would imagine for it would fit inside the DR-80 clamp and you would not see the black hose. And the hose would act as "memory locks" if you ever disassemble the rack.

I ended up using a black garden hose I have and it worked great. Can't see the hose at all.
