  • DW and TAMA boom arm thickness - are they compatible?

Hi all! This is my first post here, so I apologize if I post on the wrong forum or break some rule asking about a brand thats not Pearl.

But I have kind of an urgent need for information, cause theres a dealine to place my order on an online shop, and I would greatly appreciate the help.

I need to know if the:

DW puppy bones model SM2031 (http://www.dwdrums.com/factoryaccess...TNAME=dwsm2031)

    and

DW cymbal tilter clamp model SM2034 (http://www.dwdrums.com/factoryaccess...TNAME=dwsm2034)

FIT on a TAMA HC73BWM Roadpro Boom Stand

    http://www.musiciansfriend.com/drums...pro-boom-stand

The DW hardware/puppy bones will only fit 1/2" (12.7mm), but Im not sure if they fit a TAMA Roadpro stand.

Can someone please give me a 100% sure answer about this?

Anyone uses these cymbal adapters on a TAMA Roadpro stand?

    THANKS!!!!

Hey man! Welcome to the forum. I've got some Tama Roadpro stands and some Deedub 9000 stuff - the Roadpro booms are thinner than the 9000 ones, so you might have an issue with the Roadpro boom being too slim for the DW components.

    Hope that helps!

      Hey Sam!

Thank you VERY much for your comments!

I have just measured my Tama Roadpro boom arm with a precision tool, and its exactly 12.0mm thick.

Both Gibraltar and DW cymbal tilters are 12.7mm.

Do you folks believe its a GOOD fit or I might have problems?

Maybe I could wrap a littel piece of paper to make the boom thicker??

Your TAMA Roadpro stands are old or newer models???

You might be able to use the larger DW rod in the smaller Tama clamp/ratchet but not the other way around.

What?? That doesnt make much sense, does it??

I can fit a larger DW boom arm rod in to a thinner TAMA stacker hole, but i cant fit a thinner TAMA arm rod into a larger DW hole??

          I cant fit a 12.7mm rod to a 12.0mm hole, but cant fit a 12.0mm rod to a 12.7mm hole??

          Is that right????

I can see that actually being true. The Tama clamp/ratchet has to extend/open some to let the rod slide through. I would guess that it opens more than .7 mm, most clamps open quite large, much larger than the rod size. So if the Tama clamp opens up a couple/few mm for free movement, you could get the 12.7 rod in and it will tighten around it. But if the clamp will tighten up to 12.7 at its smallest, it will never grip the smaller rod. You could put a piece of rubber in it if you could find a small enough piece, and it may work, but there would always be a good chance of the smaller rod slipping in the larger clamp.

              Well.....

The DW´s fit a 12.7mm and the Tama Roadpro boom arm is 12.0mm thick.

The 0.7mm will make that much of a difference??? Really????

I have an early 90's Tama boom arm, diameter is just under 12 mm, maybe about 11,5.

I inserted it in my dw dogbone, and the dogbone securely holds it. No problem.

You're welcome mate. My Roadpro stands are fairly recent models. Blisco is right, you can just about fit the larger DW rod in the Tama clamp, but I haven't tried it the other way round. I could tomorrow if you like (although sinuatus has said they do fit).

After buying that little piece of hardware from Tama: CYA5E, I can assure you that not many companies use the same diameter as only my Tama boom stand works with the tiny hole...

This is an extremely crappy pic, but it shows the Tama boom arm inserted into a dw dogbone. The Tama arm holds a 16" power crash.
