Thanks for the bump boomcrashbang!
Mike, nice setup you had there. With the exeption of the (I'm guessing) 18" floor, that's the same setup I've got.

Originally posted by fledgehogi'm surprised the resonance nazis aren't giving you **** about those hydro bass headsThe hydros sounded nice, and I played Evans Hydros (clear and blue) from around '87 until sometime around 2006. At the moment I'm playing Aquarian SuperKick IIs on the basses and they give me the sound I"m after. SuperKickIIs with nothing in the basses. The hydros were nice, though.

I am amazed at how well they have stood up over time, really, and they still sound great. I put SuperKickIIs on the basses and EC2s on the toms, added an Eric Singer snare with an Evans Genera X Dry head and they sound pretty darn good!
I actually get to play these bad boys this week! Due to several different circumstances, my drums are up in Virginia for the time being. My brother is driving down from Washington, D.C. and I'm driving up from SC and we're gonna jam over the holiday at my parent's house just like the old days. Even going to do a little recording this weekend, so we'll see how that goes. I picked up a set of chimes and a 22" Wuhan china, so I'm anxious to try those out.Last edited by dudme; 11-22-2008, 11:12 PM.Random obscure cool group from my youth: Bad NewsMy cymbal review

I thought I would update this thread with a few pictures of my Exports. This is a refinishing project that I'm working on in my spare time.
My Masters Custom MMXs arrived yesterday, so I probally won't be playing the Exports that much now. They still sound great, though. If anybody wants to hear what a 23 year old set of Exports sound like, go to
http://gimmethegig.com/
Go down to the video gallery section, and select the M's.
The band name is Marshall Brothers, and the video was submitted by goldfishcarp. Click on the video and wait for it to load. The Exports were recorded with a bass drum mic, a snare mic and two overheads.Random obscure cool group from my youth: Bad NewsMy cymbal review

New Export wrap, and the Masters
A few more pictures of the new Export wrap, and the Masters MMX. Just for fun, I started wrapping the Exports in contact paper. I think they are turning out pretty good, and it gives me something different to look at instead of the black I've been staring at over the last 23 years.Random obscure cool group from my youth: Bad NewsMy cymbal review

Love the restoration. You make me wish I could have kept one of those Exports! I love White Kits!
I used Evans Hydraulics until I discovered EC2's and EMAD2. With the Masters though; it's Coated Emps over Clear Ambs for toms; Coated Amb over clear Amb on snare; and Clear PS4 with Pearl Logo Bass.sigpicPEARL DRUMS

The Masters are just at the next level, both in workmanship and sound. I got the recording that my brother and I did over Thanksgiving in the mail Monday and WOW, the MMX's sound incredible. Like I said, the Exports sound great, but the Masters just take it to the next level.
The Artic White is growing on me. I really like it, but with all of the colorful Masters sets out there, sometimes I long for something a little more red or green..... or ...........Random obscure cool group from my youth: Bad NewsMy cymbal review

I decided to go with coated EC2s and a SuperKick II for the Masters for now, simply because I don't have the time to devote to finding the perfect heads at the moment. Something about having a six month old in the house has something to do with that I'm sure.I've got an Genera-X Dry head on the Eric Singer snare, which sounds amazing in it's own right.
