  • Haven't been around. Gear Aquisition...

I've still got my starclassic and 6-ply Ludwig kits, but anyway, here's some of my more recent purchases...

Kit is a Sonor SQ2 in medium birch w/ semigloss birdseye maple veneer. Snares are 6"x14" Starphonic mapa burl, 6"x14" Noble & Cooley solid ply tulip in natural gloss, 8"x14" CoW Ludwig coliseum snare, 6-1/2"x14" Ludwig hammered acrophonic, and 5-3/4"x13" Benny Greb brass.

    Kit sizes are 8"x10", 9"x12", 14"x14", 16"x16", 16"x22".

Loving those birch Sonors!! The Noble & Cooley Tulip is interesting. I’ve never played a Tulip drum. What sonic range does Tulip provide?

Tulip has a birch-like quality. Maybe a bit less aggressive.
The drum has a lot of ring, and fairly pronounced low-end, even in the higher tuning range. Rim clicks are pretty nasty, too.

Stunning! Have you got any close ups of the finish on the kit?

Most everybody's probably seen the little box that comes with the SQ2 kits.

What are we looking at, exactly?

A keyring, a gold drumkey, a usb stick w/ some ads & literature, and all the warranty cards for each drum. The brown wooden thing is a box.

Not yet. Haven't actually played much in the last year and a half.

Exquisite collection! But again, I've always loved your kits, so no surprise there.

A friend of mine is waiting on a SQ2 as well, also medium birch. I'm curious to see it in person.

For being a "medium" shell, they're quite heavy to carry around. I'm sure your friend will love his.

It looks like a lot of cost for something that could be just thrown in a bag.
