  • My Pearl Masters BCX double bass setup

    So this happened today
I use this kit now with my prog rock/metal project Quivermore. Used my VBA before for that, but i felt the time was right to switch them around (and convert the VBA to an e-kit) so i could use my second bass drum. Today i spent some time setting it up, expanding the rack and tuning it. It plays and sounds like a dream! I need to replace the single pedals though; they feel really sluggish compared the the Iron Cobra twin pedal I've been using for years, so i'm going to order a two IC single pedals to replace the Pearl pedals i used today.

It's perfect for twin kick set ups. If it was my kit, I'd move that left crash and put the RT's there.

Thanks for all the replies! The new Tama pedals are in. Can't wait to play with them next friday! Already made some small adjustments so the beaters line up the exact way my double pedal does. Next addition is perhaps the 6x18" rocket tom (so i can finally more or less replicate the fill on 3 concert toms in "Cygnus X1" intro we do in our medley) and another Gibraltar boom arm so i can mount my 10" china trash with this set (i love using 2 splashes and with my other band i only use the 10" china trash instead of a splash). Yes, after all these years I'm finally "going Portnoy"

Sometimes you can just look at a kit and say "i bet that thing sounds amazing" yours is one of those kits. It just looks like a beast with warm tones.

Thanks! And it really does! With my 'other' band i play a Pearl Target (kit in the practice space, not my own) and let just say that the difference in sound is astonishing. Matter of tuning obviously and combination of head selection, but the (rack) toms have loads of attack and the bigger the drum the more low end you get. But since it's a birch kit, you still get a loud drum with loads of attack. The bass drums are by far my favorite drums on these and with the coated EMADS's they are the best sounding bass drums I've ever played!

Quick update: i got two Pearl UX-80S 'adapters' to mount on the rack so i can more easily mount the rocket toms and can position them in the place i want them: higher and slightly above the main hi-hat. Will try this tomorrow. And got another small Gibraltar arm so i can mount my 10" mini china in the 'gap' between the splashes and the ride.

Two recent pics. Made them with my new cellphone and the quality is way better then the previous camera. I forgot to take pics yesterday sadly. I've added the 10" Oriental China Trash again and used the 'new' mounting system for the rocket toms, but the 6x15 is still too far away. I will order a Pearl TH-88 so i will have enough length of the tube (that's what she said) to get that one in close. The 6x12 is close enough with the shorter tom arm.

It turned out it wasn't a crack, but just a grain that got a blemish over time and had me fooled. Took some new pics today. Used a longer tom arm to get the 6x15" rocket tom more closer. Have it in the spot i want it now. Also a new addition; 20" Paiste 2002 Novo China. Man, this thing is loud! Cuts through like a hot knife through butter. It's a keeper

I like where you put the rocket toms; looks like you have room for one more
