Finished another DIY Compact kit

I scored some maple shells that I managed to combine with lugs and other parts I had laying around and wrapped it all up in Walopus Toxic Waste Emerald Pearl. The shells are very hard maple. Tough to drill and heavy weight. love the way the toms sound.

Sizes are 18" bass, 8" and 10" Rack toms and 12" Floor tom. 14" snare.

Very nice kit build, but I'm surprised you didn't do a 13" snare with that configuration.

Here's a picture of the latest project I finished this past weekend. It's a "compact" 8x5 Firecracker snare drum (with customized Pearl mount). Sometimes I use my 12x5 Pearl Firecracker as the main snare for my "Midtown" kit so I thought this little guy would be a nice companion snare (in the same scale) to mount from the hi-hat stand.

As soon as my 4x10 snare drum arrives from Masterworks, I'll be able to finally post some picutures of my completed Masterworks cocktail kit. I think you will really appreciate the design and functionality of it.

Very nice kit. I restored / cleaned / fixed up a couple of old Pearl DX drums last Summer. Great times.

I've really wanted a 4x10 MW snare for the cocktail kit but it took me a while to figure out how to make Pearl's STL lugs work on a 4" deep drum (since the factory won't do the modifications). The main drum and the two toms use the STL lugs so I need the snare to match.

I'm hoping it will be this Spring when the snare arrives.

This weekend, I've been working on combing a Pearl HHX2 Cowbell with a Pearl WB-1 Orchestral Wood Block (from Japan) to add a little customized Pearl percussion to the kit. This combo is unique and only requires one small Pearl WH-2 mount (rather than using two mounts or mounting both separately to a long rod).

I don't like any of the drums on a kit to have the same diameter or depth so the 4x10 snare was necessary to go along with the 8x6 hi-tom and the 12x5 lo-tom. Being that it is styled after a traditional "cocktail" kit, I wanted to keep the depths of the snare and toms under 6" so that the kit is lighter and everything can be attached to the main shell (which is a 16x16 Pearl kick drum). The hi-hat and other cymbals are also attached to the main shell.

I'm also working on a Pearl "cajon kit" but I won't be able to reveal it until the Fall. The prototype is almost finished and then I'll need to order a snare drum of very unique specifications from the Pearl factory (which will take a few months).
