Really? So you dislike people who can actually write a hook? Musicians who can play their instruments? Guitar players who can play chords AND leads????? Singers who can carry a note and bands that had background harmony vocals??? Yeah man, how terrible.

Off the top of my head I remember Tommy Aldridge was in Whitesnake along with Steve Vai and Adrian Vandenberg for example.

I know for a fact many of those bands played to backing tracks and some that didn't back then do now.

Writing a hook could be heavily debated.

I will give you many of the players were technical wizards.

This whole generational discussion is pants-on-head ret***ed.

Every generation has great music and music that eats donkey d**k. This has been the case since the dawn of popular music. For every Whole Lotta Love there's a Je T'Aime...Moi Non Plus by Jane Birkin Serge Gainsbourg (both on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in January 1970).

Sure there were 80's hard rock and metal bands who were cheesy beyond compare and played to backing tracks. But there were also bands in that era who SLAMMED live and did it the right way. To say something like "am I the only one who wishes the 80's never happened?" just shows your abject ignorance and screams "HI! I'M REALLY YOUNG AND HAVE NO CONCEPT OF THE BIGGER PICTURE!"

The Animals as Leaders guitarists fly the shredder metal flag.

except that Animals as Leaders is almost unlistenable because it's just technical wizardry at the expense of musicality. "Fill every space with as many notes as we can, well as 10 layers of guitar all playing different things." It's totally overwhelming to me, at least.

OP, I listened to your band's music and couldn't get past your singer. Sorry bud.

                            Plini!

Absolutely awesome australian guitar wizard at the tender age of 24. Look him up, you won't be disappointed.

BTW Troy Wright plays drums for him, if you haven't heard of him, look him up too.

Cinderella was a great and under rated band, good blues rock. Early Ratt and early Crue (shout at the devil era) I thought had it. Old VH still holds up today. Even the dudes in the cheesier band could still shred, take for example Andy Timmons from Danger Danger.
