  • Finally upgraded- Ocean Sparkle and Satin inside

Some of you may remember my Tama Swingstar kit (2005 version) in Gun Metal Metallic that I rocked for about 8 years, well, I still have it, but I now have just about my dream kit. If this had a few more pieces, it would be my complete dream kit. I'd also like to have got my hands on the BRX version and a 20" bass, but hey, I can deal with this.

The kit was purchased back in January off of Ebay and I just finally paid off my parents who so graciously helped me to obtain my dream kit. After spending the past few hours in the basement pulling apart the Swingstar, cleaning the carpet, re-heading the Masters and setting them up, I'm ready to share.

Pearl MMX Masters in Ocean Sparkle with Satin Hardware
    Remo Coated Emporer/Evans Genera Resonant
    10x8
12x9 (not in use until I obtain another PCX-200 and tom arm)
    14x11
    22x18

    14x5 Ludwig Supraphonic

    Cymbals:
    15" K Light Hi-Hats
23" K Constantinople Low Bell Ride Prototype
18" Avedis Medium Crash Block Letter

    Cymbals off the kit:
    7" Sabian Alum Bell
    10" Agazarian Splash
    12" Wuhan China
15" Avedis New Beat Hi-Hats Block Letter
18" Avedis Medium Ride Block Letter
18" Avedis Low Boy China Block Letter
    21" AA RBDR
    Some B8s
    Some Tamas

    Some notes:
    1. I'm running the resonant heads that the kit included. I hope to replace them as some point with Coated Ambassadors and the bass with a white Pearl reso or the Remo Badge reso.
    2. Still working on getting better cymbals and cymbal holders. Trying to get Tama Roadpro booms all around and whatever cymbals I can find that I love (at the right price).

Now let's see some pictures. I'll throw in some pictures of the switch, re-heading and the old kit (as it last stood).

So that's what you were hiding! It looks magnificent. Congratulations! Needs a white reso, imo though. I'm so jealous of the satin. Unbelievably so. You lucky chap!

Nice looking kit! Of the sparkle finishes, that one is easily my favorite.

Really nice kit! i agree, a white/coated reso would look even better.

Wow! It really means a lot guys! They tune up sooo easily. I was a bit nervous when I first struck the drum as the tone with far too high and ringy for my taste, but with a little tweaking, and not even running my ideal reso heads, they sound beyond my imagination.

I am saving up for a white reso. With how many people have mentioned it, hopefully that will be my next buy.

A little update: I've played the kit just over 30 minutes and the coated emporers are already showing extreme wear, so I called Remo and was given an email address. I have just emailed them all the details and attached pictures. Hopefully, replacements arrive within the week. I dig the sound they give me, so I'm not sure I want to switch, but I don't want to play with wearing heads. Attached is the picture of the 14" tom's wear, which is definitely the worst.

Disappointing, yes, but I know mistakes happen and thankfully Remo's great customer service is prepared to fix it. They'll still get love before the new heads get here though

EDIT: If you can think of a great bass reso in coated or white shoot me a PM. I'd love to get some ideas. I have some ideas, but I don't want to sacrifice the bass drum's sound for looks. I'm not to sure how much the bass reso effects the sound. Never replaced a bass reso.

Ok, before you hit coated remos check the tips of your wood stick to make sure there are no varnish burrs or cymbal cuts. That'll tear up coating proper fast.
Sand the wood tips lightly, problems solved.(generally speaking)

Nice kit! I always like OS.

Try a smooth white PS3 for a reso. They don't have the pinstripe things in them like a regular PS3.

I'll give it a shot! But the coating on my new Coated Ambassador (snare) isn't wearing this fast, nor did my old Coated Ambassador head I just retired. But I'll definitely give it a check!

It seems like the Smooth White PS3 is winning. Thanks all for the kind words!

You can probably find a Clean White PS3 Pearl Logo Head on e bay.

Another Masters Army member asked Al to ask PMI and they made him a couple extra drums.(Ocean Sparkle with Satin Hardware) This might be a last chance at a 16" x 16" FT. I would ask right away if there is any left.

                              Great kit! Rep!
