  • 10x6 acrylic snare

This is a snare I made. I call it a "semi- chamber snare". I drew a broken iPod, and "Make your own music!" around the chamber.

    Specs:
    10x6 orange acrylic shell
8x5 chamber with custom artwork(made of a cardboard building form)
    Shield Lugs
    Pacific Drums strainer and butt

    Cheers =]

EDIT: Most of these pictures are a panoramic, so they go in order.

So the inner shell is cardboard? What does that sound like?

looks sick. have any recordings of it?
did you do all the drilling and edges yourself?

Hmm i dont know about the cardboard but thats really kool! Maybe some time in the future you should replace it with a wood or metal shell.

Yeah, I did everything myself. I actually like the cardboard because it absorbs some of the unwanted ring of acrylic.

Like I said, the cardboard absorbs a lot of ring for the acrylic. But it's still punchy like acrylic. It's bright (but not high pitched), responsive and crisp.

I love this SO much. !
Even the idea of a 10" snare jsut makes me happy, is it real crack-y ?! I'm making a 12" stave and i'm excited
Is that versatile enough for you though as a main ?!

You never mentioned anything about sound in this thread. Maybe in another thread???

I'd be nervous about the cardboard shell wicking moisture out of the air.

10'' is versatile for me. I tried to go back to a 14'' and I couldn't...It was too big and I don't know how to tune 13'' or 14'' snares as well as 10 inchers.

See post #8.....that's how it sounds.

It's ok where I live. The humidity level is so low it's not even funny....
