That looks great, man. I used to have that same Peavey kit... they did NOT sound bad at all for a beginners set!
out of curiosity, did you do the same to the rack toms?
No.....but I've done some pretty crazy stuff with the rack toms though.
I made a 12x7 tom out of the 12'' tom. I was using that as a FT for a while....but 'm not using it right now.
And right now I'm making a 13x7 snare drum out of the 13'' tom. I'm not sure if I want to use it...or buy the parts for it, for that matter.....haha
I really like 10'' snares...I don't know why..

But that is a great build dude. Looks very good.
Did you etch the acrylic?
Sorry....I don't. The hardware was just scratched up though...It looked pretty cool just sanded over. I almost just left it all scratch up.
The snare is semi-chamber snare. The outside is and acrylic shell and the inside shell is cardboard =] I just glued white paper to the cardboard and drew all over it.
I'll make a thread of my snare later today =]
I want to try that kind of finish! I have an old snare lying around and i already have the wrap off of it. I think im going to go to the hardware store and get some paint this week!

What grits did you use on the drums? What grit did you use for between coats? Same with the hardware...what grits did you use and what grit between coats? Did you use any clearcoat on the shells?

Dope.. so many questions must be good, eh?
How'd you split the bass drum? Measure it out and then.. ?
haha, I know....there are so many questions! That's good though....
The bass drum was originally 22x14. So, I cut the shell in 2 spots and then spread the splits apart. I'm not exactly sure of the measurements...but I'll figure out.

I started with 60 grit, then 110, then 220. I didn't sand in between paint coats.....I just put down a primer and then spray painted over it. I did many light coats until I got a nice solid color.
As for the hardware, I only sanded between the first and second coats. With 220 grit. It's a very light sanding....
