  • Finally, pics of my kit...

So I finally took some good pictures of my kit. The drums were originally a Peavey drum set (yeah...I know....peavey....). Well, I decided to make it my own. I redid the edges on everything, repainted(outside and inside), split the shells on the bass and FT, and made the hardware satin chrome. I also made the acrylic snare

    Specs-

    Drums
    22x17 bass drum
    16x12 floor tom
    10x6 snare (Acrylic chamber snare)

    Cymbals
    21'' Zildjian Sweet Ride
    Hihats
-Top 14''- is a bottom paiste 101 hihat and I painted it and then sanded it to make it look awesome
-Bottom 14''- Some other no name brand (The hihats sound really good....believe me)

    Without further a due.....

        Looks pretty cool.

The bass drum is just split right? No acylic or anything?
I love when my cymbals talk dirty to me.

How did you paint that mud-looking color on your drums exactly? just threw around with the brush with the paint on it?

            Looks great!

Yeah, it's just split. There's a 1/2 inch split between the lugs and the a 3 inch split right in the middle of the shell. The big split is held together with 8 blocks of wood, screwed to the shell.

wow, i LOVE what you did with the paint. i envisioned doing something similar with mine, but wasnt sure how it'd turn out. i might have to try it sometime after seeing your results. very cool.

also, whats the deal with splitting the drums like that? whats the advantage? how does it change the sound? looks neat, none the less.

Bravo! Fist of all, that's an awesome paint job you've done. It's very cool. The splitting is definitely interesting. Here's the big question, what does it sound like? I've seen split snare drum shells (Spaun makes them, I think), but I've never seen anyone split bass drums or toms like that.

Spray paint buddy! I spent a lot of time sanding everything down and then I sprayed everything black first. Then I sanded over the black paint. Then I sprayed everything black again, and then I sprayed everything satin chrome. Then I sprayed polyurethane over everything. (Almost any store that sells spray paint, sells polyurethane in a spray bottle)

Make sure you get a spray paint that sticks to metal and get enough for ,at least, 3 light coats. DON"T CAKE IT ON.....that's a very amateur mistake.

Here's the steps you should follow:

                        1 Sand everything very thoroughly
                        2 Spray first coat
                        3 Sand over
                        4 Apply another coat
                        5 Apply a polyurethane coat
6 Then repeat steps 4 and 5 at least one more time

Remember....those coats of paint are very light. I can't stress that enough! And be patient! Let everything dry before you go on to the next step.

                        good luck =]

                          Thanks everyone!!!

                          As for the splits...
Splits = Projection. Tuning is a little harder because you loose a lot of air that's inside the drum, but once you find the spot you're looking for....oh man! They sing and project like no other drum I've heard. The bass drum is a CANNON! and the floor tom sounds like a very resonant bass drum....it has the perfect rumble. If you're playing at medium size show.....there's no need for mics because they project so well =]
