    Wow, another generic custom kit.

Seriously, these companies don't even have to try anymore do they? They probably have a stock pile of kits with pretty much that configuration lying in a warehouse somewhere, and they just slap on a pretty looking wrap and mail it off to E.M.Emo

It's not the companies fault that their customers want the kits they order.

        No it's not.

But they get loads of money and an easy job.

        Emo kids are fun.

It's not an easy job at all.
And they don't earn loads of money.

They have to pay for production costs, including very expensive machinery, the space to actually build the kits in e.t.c.
They only make a small profit, believe it or not.

feck, you're just being an old man. get over it.
maybe you're right. now get off my ****ing lawn!

in all seriousness, take all those guitar players who spent thousands of dollars in 80's on the various Ibanez & Jackson guitars and solid state amps and ask them how much they were worth in 90's. they couldn't give their gear away. things that are trendy are usually things that become dated. watch any of those VH1 80's and 90's specials and you'll know what i mean. i can't wait until 00's come out. those kits will be on that show for sure.

ps Feck was my dog. i'm dale. you kids today.

you know the ironic thing about your post...is this statement:

"they probably have a stock pile of kits pretty much that configuration lying in a warehouse somewhere"

While the "custom" kits may be similar these days, even though its what the customer orders, it still takes customer interaction with the builder and it then requirers the builder to do the finish, edges, lugs they want, etc. The ironic part comes into play due to the fact that you play a tama rockstar...which you would have got from an even larger warehouse with even more of the exact configuration stock piled. so i really do not understand your logic for your statement, being as there is 1 of these kits in existance and who knows how many thousands of yours.
just something to take home and chew.
(do also realize i am not defending the look and sizes of these, as most people know i am not a fan either, especailly if you look at my history of kits)

I want to get one of these kits and angle the hell out of everything and buy something other than DW stands and post pictures of the debased kit for all scene kids to behold.
And yes, I am an evil genius.

actually no, don't quote me but i believe my kit was the first kit to use the see through version of that color. the shells were actually dropped off personally by Ray of Goldntimes himself at my house. in fact the drums were made way before AG's kit and they were the first acrylic kit ever by GMS. it was made in 2003 when acrylics were not made to the frequency they are now. they started making their come back really due to the reissue of the Bonham kit. i think perhaps your boy Aaron copied me.

lookie here . Ray was even nice enough to post a link to my site.

The thing is, that's all well and good, but I've never claimed my kit was special or anything. I know it came off a production line in Taiwan, and I know that for the price I paid, I wasn't going to get anything hand built by men in workshops who work 12 hours a day to fulfill their orders.

I'm willing to bet a lot of the people who order from you don't have much idea about what edges and shell thickness they really want. Lugs and finish is aesthetic, that's easy to pick. Edges, thickness, material, method, sizes etc, these all define the sound, which is something that a lot of people who order custom kits probably don't understand. And therefore, they might as well get a kit from a mass production line.

I'm not saying it'll sound better, but the fact is, it hardly seem that custom builders are dealing with real custom jobs anymore, but just special paint jobs, with pretty lugs.

And no, it's not their fault, it's their customers. And it's a shame that the talent and time that goes into these drums is wasted on what I see as menial kits.
