  • RIP Taylor Hawkins... 1972 - 2022

    Only 50? Super sad.

I'm not a big Foo fan, but from what I've seen of him in videos and interviews, he seemed like a decent guy.

    Yes, RIP Taylor.

Super big fan of the Foo Fighters here. Very Sad indeed.

Not a fan of his band as well, but he was a really good drummer, and also did an enormous job of putting us drummers in the spotlight and making the general audience to perceive drumming as "cool", which cannot really be said about many other good drummers.

Love the Foo Fighters, love Taylor, very sad to hear about his death. I think he’s one of the only modern drummers to still use concert toms and he was always super tasteful behind the kit. We lost a good one.

Here’s a bada*s video from when the Foo’s played Wembley Stadium a while back with some familiar faces.

I posted it here years ago (11 in fact…) but I got a pair of Taylor’s sticks from his tech when my wife and I saw the Foos in 2011 in newark. Lost em in Sandy a year later but that was a great night and I’m so glad we got to see Taylor perform live.

So, so gutted. He was the quintessential rock drummer and seemed like a genuinely nice guy to boot.

I like him as a singer better. In fact, he and Dave should have switched roles.

So strange and sad when someone so young and popular dies, but not someone you necessarily think of as being at risk. It's like when Kobe Bryant died.

It's someone you don't think about every day, but you never expect them to go anywhere. They're such a large part of our collective culture so you feel like it was someone you knew, if only just a little. For them to die so suddenly is very jarring.

I also find it strange how many drummers on all my different forums and social media platforms say they weren't really fans of the Foo Fighters. I figured I was the only one. Even though I didn't listen to his music, I always thought Taylor seemed like a really cool dude and loved what he and Dave did for the image of rock drummers as capable of being both musicians and stars.

Jeeze. How impressive is it that while on stage with Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones Taylor and Dave both completely command your attention.

He had a good voice but it wasn’t… signature. Grohl has an immediately recognizable voice. Same for his drumming. That being said, I think Taylor was a better drummer than he was a singer.

Like many others, I wouldn't class myself as a big FF fan - I only really listen to their Greatest Hits album. But I am a massive fan of Taylor. His unbridled energy and unending enthusiasm was infectious; he lit up every room he was in, and that came out in his playing making him a joy to watch. I only got to see FF’s live once, back in 2017 (I was due to see them this summer in an open air venue that would have been amazing). Absolutely brilliant show, the best part of three hours of wall to wall hits - I think they played the entirety of that Greatest Hits album, and then some. Taylor and Dave were just amazing: trading places behind the kit and mic respectively for a couple of Queen songs. And if you haven’t seen them, you’d be surprised just how good a singing voice Taylor has. You know you’re good when you can carry off singing Queen live..! I was scheduled to see them this summer at the Olympic Stadium, and apart from looking forward to what I knew would be an excellent show, especially in an open air event in the summer time, I was really really looking forward to seeing Taylor play drums again. Half the shows I go to these days are to see the drummer play. Such a shame we'll never see that huge smile behind the kit as he does what he loves.

I can't imagine what Dave is going through - to be the drummer in a band and lose your frontman, and then be the frontman in a band and lose your drummer - not to mention just how good friends he and Taylor were.

Such sad news about Taylor Hawkins. He struggled with addiction for a long time. I understand how powerful drugs and alcohol are in my life but until I surrendered absolutely nothing would change. It was extremely difficult for me to accept the fact I couldn’t do it alone. I don’t claim to be a saint, but I’m so grateful for the many people that helped me along the way.

I understand his life of fame is much different than mine but May 20th 1994 was the day I decided to do what ever it took to stay sober. RIP brother Taylor you will never be forgotten. I miss brother Lonny so much ,maybe Taylor is with him in Valhalla.

Congratulations and stay strong. As the son of an alcoholic we are just as happy and in need of you being sober as you are.

Aside from its senselessness, I simply cannot get my head around how apparently NOT A SINGLE PERSON in the entire Foo’s organization, either a) noticed anything or b) did anything about it if they did.
Like, his wife? Kids? Manager? Publicist? Tech? DAVE himself? The dude was doing a veritable rainbow of different kinds of drugs. It’d be like me waking up this morning, doing a few bumps of coke, walking downstairs grinding my jaw and jittering like a madman and my wife not saying, “The **** is wrong with you?”
