  • Right Now, I Only Own Two Drums!

Last month our church had an outdoor evening service in which I preached (LOL). I also used my Mapex Saturn V four-piece kit. Later I realized that I had not used that kit for a year. So after much prayer, I decided to take it to church to replace to 90s Export kit that someone gave to church. The Saturn V is much better drum set. But that leaves me with a Mapex MPX 13x6 Birch Snare and an old Mapex Venus 10x9 tom. It is the first time in over fifty years that I have not owned a drums set. I am trying to win a set from Sweetwater.com. If I do not win one, I will buy one in early January for my birthday. Peace and goodwill.

That's a really nice thing to do. Even if you don't have a kit, can you go and play at church? What are you planning on replacing it with?

If I do not win one of the kits that Sweetwater is giving away, I will go to the nearest music store that has the most drums sets and choose one. I can go to church and play any time I want. Peace and goodwill.

You're in a great position. You're a drummer without drums. From now until d-day your only job is to research, plan, plot and conspire. Figure out what your next drum set will be. There are soooo many choices. Best of luck, my friend.

When you go shopping, check out DW Performance drums. I did see some used Mapex sets at my local stores, but the DW Performance drums impressed me the most. They are finished nicely, sound really nice, are reasonably priced, and are made in the USA... win, win, win, win. Just my two cents from my recent window shopping. If you want more for your money, and don't mind where the drums are made, then look into Gretsch Catalina, and Tama Starclassic Performer.. My only disappointment about the new Tama lines is the absence of sparkle finishes. Apparently sparkles/glitter are out , which is exactly what I want for my new basement set.

I looked over a Performance set while I was in GC the other day. Very nice. Build quality seemed very solid, and I'm a big fan of the half sized lugs.

A Starclassic Maple in Deeper Purple would look great at your place..........

Well, I went shopping at three musical instrument stores in Lafayette, Louisiana but only bought two cymbals and a Mapex Armory Sabre snare. On the way home, my wife and I were talking about what drums to get. I suggested buying a Mapex Mars set, but she said I should get a Saturn kit instead. I ordered one from Sweetwater, and it should arrive today. I will take pictures when I can. Peace and goodwill.

Which Saturn did you get? I loved mine when I had it. They really do sound as good as people say. From memory you've had a saturn already didn't you?
